I was about 2 when I learned. My dad just threw me in and jumped in right after. Took me about 30s, and I was swimming like a fish.

Both my boys swim and have since they were about 4.

I mean I don't get not learning how to swim. It's more practical than learning how to ride a bike.

I can't imagine not being able to swim. I love the water, particularly the ocean. I love to snorkel and scuba dive and w/o the ability to swim, I would never have been afforded the opportunity to experience snorkeling and diving.

like an individual title? and did he go UT? y'all were a lot better back in the day... then again so were we, but we're back on the climb again. we returned the fastest man in the ncaa and he has the top 50 free time, f'ing sprinters lol. i had a few friends who swam at UT 15+ years ago

personally i had a state record that went 13 years... current world record holder is from my state and younger than me, and he's not the one who broke it. fricking cheater suits that got banned, i got out technologied needless to say i didn't grow up a bama fan, but it's where i ended up because of swimming.

did you swim competitively? and if you're from tennessee, one of my most humorous swimming stories involves a chick who swam at pilot haha.

it seemed we had more access to water even though not as many had pools back then

Vols were really good in swimming and diving it seems like in the late 70's / early 80's. Competitive swimming was the nails and not much sexier than a college chick with a body built by the butterfly.

Well that is a byproduct but I was referring to a well developed set of lungs.

Yes.

My mom is actually a prolific swimmer and used to swim competitively. She made sure my sibs and I could make it in the water.

We've had a pool in both the houses I lived in growing up and I spent hours upon hours back there. Plus when we lived in Kentucky our neighborhood was next to a golf course that had a pretty big pool. We used to spend every day there in the summers.

I could never grasp how some one nearing adulthood couldn't figure out how to swim.

We floated a river for a fraternity rush event a few years ago and one girl I knew made the shocking revelation to a few of us that she had no idea how to swim, she was 20 at the time...

I wish we had a good river to float down and drink some beers on in Memphis. We made a trip to Spring River, Arkansas twice to do it when I was in high school and it is always a good time.

Of course.

My mother in law cannot and it boggles my mind. She lives on the lake with a pool in her backyard. She grew up in Alabama on a farm with several ponds on it and a creek running through it. She goes to the beach a dozen times a year. All that time around water and she can't swim.

I tried to teach her once, but it didn't go very well.
