Maybe some do, but so do some Atheists, Muslims, Agnostics...

But Christianity does not call us to 'hate gays', rather it teaches us to love all, even our enemies.
However, it does not tell us we should approve of any sinful behavior. You can hate the sin and still love the sinner.

As far as the gay marriage thing - I think the problem some Christians (and non Christians) have with it is that Christians look upon a 'true marriage' as a union ordained and approved of by God, not just by man or government. I don't believe God would look upon the union of two men or two women as a 'marriage', based upon his own words in the Bible.

If same sex couples want the same benefits (tax etc.), let them have an official piece of paper from the government that declares them a couple, a 'civil union' if you will. That's fine. But don't expect Christians (or some other religions for that matter) to recognize it as a union with God's blessings.

I will draw the line at same sex couples trying to 'force' the church to have any part in their ceremony, when such unions are not blessed by the very God that said church worships.
