I'm just talking about a cost/benefit scenario in purely financial terms. Lost productivity, workplace injuries, higher insurance premiums, etc. that cost businesses money. The other side of the debate, liberty to do with one's body what they wish, is a social issue. I'm pretty much a libertarian on social issues, so I support legalization from a social/criminal justice perspective. I'm really torn on the issue to the point of ambivalence. My best guess is that we'll try it, then re-evaluate in 20-30 years. If the bad outweighs the good, I think we'd see it re-criminalized.

If 10% are producing nothing and getting welfare benefits, that hurts the whole economy. If you were going to open up a factory, would you do it in a state where 10-20% of the population were known to be stoners?
