My son loves Missouri and has great friends there. He would like to move there if his career could support it. Mainly cause he is also a NHL Blues fan. However, I read shite like this and wonder if Mo. isnt one of the more fricked up places in the country.

It's weird that you and I went to Missouri State at the same time, probably partied at the same places, hung out in Blair Shannon, drove the same shitty car, and ended up in San Diego (even though my time there was temporary versus permanent).

Preach on bruh.

Chances are reall good we crossed paths, and didn't even know it.

So when did y'all go to Missouri State. I lived in Springfield from 2003-2006 (back when it was still SWMS or something). I bought and restored old caboose bungalow just South of Campus by the park. I had an absolute blast as a recently divorced prior Marine Infantry Officer, making good money with an expense account, living that close to campus. My bulldog puppy (God bless her soul) and son was pure gold in attracting numerous young female co-eds with severe Daddy Issues. Then I had to go and get promoted and sent to the corporate staff up in St Louis.....which was an okay target rich environment but not nearly as fun as the easy pickings I had in Springfield.

By the way what was the name of that upscale bar downtown, Biajis or something. Great food and stiff drinks. There was also Clary's and I used the private Wine Cellar/Tasting room numerous times at the Brown Derbies main store. Or take them down to that big Hotel in Branson or the Bass Pro Resort....deem where good times

Killz and me, we're old.

It was SMS, Missouri State was a rumor.

I left in October 1996 and joined the Navy in December.

Best part of SW Missouri, getting baked and driving down to Lamberts Cafe.

Good times, all you can eat, and that shite was legit.

I may have you 2 lads by a couple years (I graduated from El Cid in 1994 and was commissioned immediately)

What was name of that park? Chicks would go running there, sun bath and play volley ball amongst all the tall trees. It was maybe 2 or 3 blocks off the Southside of campus and was just one huge city block square.

What part of the Navy. I was still in the fleet back in 1996-1998. Think I was on the Siappan & Whimbley Island during those years.

Bijans

Unfortunately it no longer exists, but downtown is FAR better than it's ever been. The mid 90s was the dumps for downtown. Now it's a true entertainment and restaurant district.

Bijans, that's is right. Man I spent many many nights there. The same guys opened a Steakhouse down the street called Fire or Feugo (sp?) right before I left but it wasn't nearly as good for "talent" purposes as Bijan's.

I do have a good story about dating one of their waitresses. Young lady had an oral fetish and was quite skilled but had this thing about wanting to milk the prostrate when she tied one on....not my idea of fun

That park was called Phelps Grove Park, and although hot college chicks certainly spent time there, it is also locally famous for being the gay park. Rumors were that gays looking for gays would park backward in the parking lot...a secret "I'm game" code. The crazy thing is that while it was a very popular rumor, you'd always see single dudes parked backward at that park.

Weird place at night. That's when their little game really stood out. Campus parties always occurred in neighborhoods around that park and you would literally see cars parked backward at like 2 am. on your way back to the dorms.

CVN-74, USS John C. Stennis, did her Maiden World Cruise to San Diego in 1998, haven't left since I got here.

Worked TAD with SWCC as an ET in Coronado in 1999, deployed again on CVN-74 in 2000. Left the Nav in 2001. Good times.

There were plenty of Gheys in Springfied (per captia the most in the State) and a good number of them lived in that neighborhood so am not surprised to hear the backwards car bit. Still am friends with a Ghey couple up there that only lived a couple blocks away and one my son called Grandma Randy. They actually helped me frequently catch my limit for the night whe we'd go out.

I'm a commissioned artist and got two minors in Art and English (Bachelors in Business Managment/Entrepreneurship). I spent a lot of time around the gays and am friends to this day with a few. When it comes to home renovation and decoration, they truly know their shite. Impeccable taste (usually).

And they confirmed the Phelps Grove rumor to be true although they all claimed to have never participated in the Phelps Grove midnight shenanigans.

I would just laugh and say shite like, "Y'all some weird dudes."

You were a Left Coast guy. I was strictly a right coast guy. I was with 2nd Battalion 8th Marines and 8th Marines as a CO up in Swamp Lejeune. Went TAD to Southcomm for a year. Finished off my last 3 of 8 years with the 20th NCR in Gulfport Mississippi.

I miss going to Watercolor USA. My Dad was the curator of Arts for ISU growing up so plenty of his friends participated/competed every year. Grew up with Ken Holder's wife as my Arts teacher. I think he won it a couple times before passing away.

One huge regret that I have to this day is not enlisting. I was incredibly close to signing with the Marines or Navy my senior year in high school but my grandfather, who is a WWII Marine veteran who fought in the South Pacific, urged me to go to college first and then reconsider the military after earning a degree. After spending years in college I lost track or interest in the military.

I regret it.

I was in the Presidents Navy for about 6 months in Virginia.

You can have that east coast shite. Nothing like watching a Flag driving down the pier in Norfolk looking for sailors that don't salute.

Then get dressed down by some staff JG fig, because you didn't see his stupid arse.

Norfolk, good times.

I had a ton of fun seeing every continent except Australia and Anatarica, had the military pay for my undergrad & graduate degrees being a high speed boy scout with better uniform and knuckleheads taking pop shots from time to time All I had to do was give them two bum ankles, chronic lower back pain, an ex-wife (Thank you Lord Jesus) and bout of alcoholism (which I got under control some time ago). So lots of good times and some tough learning experiences made me a better Father, Husband and employee in the long-run.
