Slight thread derail, but did not want to have this discussion continued in the Coastie thread, what are your musical tastes? Hanging out with old hippie dudes is cool,but are you into old hippie dude music?

Couple of real Sherlocks we got here. Same favorite team, same initials, same black/white themed avi.
Straws -- anyone that's willing to read these posts should be able to see you're wrong, even if they know nothing about this topic.
For your own knowledge, in most BJJ gyms the 'sport' aspect is not the sole emphasis. All programs that I've seen integrate real life scenarios into BJJ and teach a full scope approach to self defense -- and of course fighters interested in becoming well rounded practice other disciplines aside from BJJ.
You seem to not grasp the concept that BJJ is a skill within the skill of grappling. Isolating the art for the purpose of mastering it has value.

I'm sure now that it is football season I'll be picking it up a bit more.
In terms of music, I like a lot of hippie music, phish is my favorite and while I enjoy a lot of the other bands in the current'jam scene I don't follow / love them as much as I do phish although I really like Gov't Mule and most anything Warren Haynes does.
For the old hippie music, I do like grateful dead but mainly because they have phenomenal songwriting - I just prefer my music to have a little more teeth (see JRAD for my favorite rendition of Dead songs and one of my favorite bands playing right now). Hendrix, Zeppelin, ABB, The Band, Beatles etc. are all some of my favorites. I like old progressive stuff a lot too like Pink Floyd, Talking Heads and Velvet Underground.
Pretty much if it isn't that horrible country stuff (I like Jason Isbell and some of that kind of stuff, but not super in to it) or horrible hip hop / rap i can dig it. Don't listen to a lot of rap but there are some artists that i definitely respect.

Your issue is with slamming in BJJ sport competitions.
I've graciously explained to you why isolating the gentle and skilled art of BJJ for the sake of competition has value, and explained that a BJJ practice doesn't solely focus on the sport aspect.

I think he's pretty clearly stated that "being loyal to the style" isn't some force field out of of the implications you're making.

If he has, I'd love to see it. I still fail to see the difference between being slammed and being spiked by an uchi mata.
