walked away thinking that was worth what I paid for.

Exactly my problem with it. Went by myself this past Christmas season while doing some last minute solo shopping and my bill was over $20. Granted, I did have an Irish coffee, but still. Over $20 for an omelet a side of bacon and an Irish Coffee is pretty ridiculous.

Have not been to Metro Diner. I really don't eat out for breakfast very much, and when I do I just go to Waffle House. I know Metro has lunch and dinner as well. Have heard great things.

Metro serves their breakfast all day. The chicken and waffles there were really good. I did not enjoy the chicken pot pie however. Overall it is pretty good though. Definitely worth a visit if you're bored.

Baha Burger is okay. Chez Fon Fon, Jack Brown's, and Sammy's Sandwiches all have better burgers, IMO. And the Golden Rule on 31.

Yeah, but how many of the girls that work at the other places have you banged? That can affect your rating IMO

I am curious on which restaurant you decided to visit. Enjoy the race, the weather should be perfect.

I am so disappointed in a few things

1. I missed this thread and my chance to reply
2. Some of the patrons naming "Jim N Nicks"
3. The lack of good suggestions by most of the posters

I miss Pete's

I like Gus's slaw dog

Niki's is ok

I'm still just shocked someone suggested Jim N Nicks

Bowl have you tried the Pizitz food hall yet?

Jim N Nick's is fine, though wouldn't suggest it to someone coming from out of town. And their BBQ is just okay, at best. I like a couple of their lunch specials - the smoked turkey plate or grilled chicken plate.

I agree with the lunch specials...I just disagree with the quality of the meat for the money

...My wife calls me a BBQ snob, but it's hard not to be in Birmingham with the likes of Saw's, Golden Rule, and Full Moon...just to name a few

Saw's and Miss Myra's are the only places I get BBQ from in Bham. I love Full Moon's sauce, but their meat is too hit or miss between all their locations.

The only Full Moon we go to is Fultondale and it is always really good...I live a few miles from Golden Rule in Irondale and Saw's in Crestline so yeah...kind of picky about BBQ

Bottega Restaurant & Cafe

Used to work there a few years ago. By far the most overrated place in Bham. If you like your food drenched in oil, and over salted, you’ll love the cafe side. Only place I ever worked where people didn’t enjoy what they were eating, but ate it anyway because they didn’t want to be seen complaining. It’s very much a restaurant where certain people go to be seen, and not because of the food. The manager when I worked there actually kept a record of certain individuals or families who were in the restaurant and what businesses they owned, how much they were worth, and would always give me a short run down on them before I would greet the table. I definitely got the impression that I was supposed to treat them different than the regular nobodies that stopped in to eat.

Edit: After I left, I found out a few months later that the manager would routinely call my other job on days I was not scheduled. She was trying to find out if I was working my other job. It was pretty creepy to say the least.

I guess I suck at food. I enjoyed Bottega the 3 or 4 times I've been. It's been 4 or 5 years since I last went there though. It does have that "be seen" vibe to it though.

I think Hot & Hot is pretty overrated.

The food wasn’t horrible but was not “wow! This is amazing!” food. It was at times over complicated for no reason. I mean it’s great that you can source blue cheese, produced in caves in South Carolina, but when 99% of the customers don’t want blue cheese on a sandwich, you should take that into account. To be inflexible and say they can’t order the sandwich without it because it changes the flavor profile is retarded. To me that says it’s not about the guest and what they want, it’s about your ego. It bothered me to no end to see people drop money on a meal they didn’t enjoy, eat it anyway because they were afraid to be seen complaining and then over tip on top of that.... and don’t even get me started on the staff. I’ve never worked with so many servers who had an overinflated sense of their relationship with customers.

Damn boy - we are cut from the same cloth

Tip Top is easily one of my kids' favorite places

Agree with everything you said, except I was not very impressed with Niki's West - definitely not a place I will go out of my way to eat - Bluff Park Diner, Bougue's, Ted's and Sarris Cafe are all better IMO

Paw Paw Patch? Damn good - plus, it was the only place I could get my oldest to eat veggies when she was young, she was an extremely finacky eater, but loved her some Paw Paw Patch - owners have to be 7th Day Adventists (closed Saturday, open Sunday - yes I am speculating)

I knew the old owner at Bluff Park/Tip Top - great guy, played HS baseball for Vestavia- new owners have done a nice job at both places

Have you tried the Homewood Diner?

Tip Top does have great breakfast, but for my money, Ranch House is better, but I am not a fan of the lunch there...
