Does the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater count?

well it is a music venue, so I say it does.

they have had some great shows since its opening. My favorite has been the two WSP shows and Pretty Lights. My Morning Jacket and Bob Dylan were good too.

Bama theater is ok.

this was there best show I can remember.

the Jupiter is pretty fun for shows.

For LSU, I would say it has to be The Varsity

It has had some big names over the years. I have been to see Edwin McCain, Corey Smith and I witnessed Marc Broussard bring down the house.

Dave Matthews played it along with WSP and I think WIllie Nelson has been there too. Small atmosphere compared to some of the places listed already, but its a great place for a show.

Athens doesn't need much introduction. We've had local acts such as REM, B-52s, Drive-By Truckers, WSP, Pylon, etc. And have hosted everyone from DMB and Umphrey's McGee to Ludacris and Willie Nelson.

Some of the better venues (or more popular):

The Classic Center

And those are just the big venues. For the more indy, college band feel you can hit up any number of our plethora of bars such as Go Bar, Rye Bar, and Little Kings Shuffle Club.

WSP playing the streets of Athens was epic.

Fayetteville has several smaller venues downtown. There used to be a big venue called Dave's but it go condozered.

George's is probably the best one going, since 1927. Second might be Kingfish. They have live music only in their beer garden, but its huge.

As an Auburn fan, I'd say Athens takes the cake in this one. With the likes of REM, B52's, and WSP coming from Athens, it adds a pedigree to their music culture and venues that no other city can boast. I laughed at the Tennessee fan who said Knoxville could compare to Athens...truly laughable!

The members of the those three bands I listed can still be seen around Athens these days too.

Another great act that came out of Athens in the 80s was Dreams So Real.

I saw Snoop and Blue Mountain at Ricks in 09. Wide variety

I thought State Theater had a better lineup the 2 years I was at state. Saw Cowboy mouth a few times and Cross Canadian among others...

Cope played at Jupiter? Not sure if I should compliment the Jupiter or ridicule Cope.

Kidding aside. Jupiter had some fun shows back in college. Wish they would change their name/get a good looking marquee for the Strip.

Bama theatre is starting to grow up and play some legit people.

The Amp brings in great acts, but I prefer the music hall setting to go see a show.

Alabama as a state has a proud music history. I am happy that the music scene in Tuscaloosa is MUCH beter than it is in Auburn.

When I was at Ole Miss, (08-12) I saw Bassnectar 2x, Pretty Lights 4x, STS9 2x, Big Gigantic 2x, Passion Pit, Conspirator, MGMT, Yonder, Robert Randolph, Moe., Portugal the Man, Lumineers etc. Trippin or Rolling at 80% of those shows. Nothing comes close to the atmosphere at Bassnectar. EVERYONE was rolling. I miss college.

I was at quite a few of those as well. I would give my left nut to relive those, especially Ghostland Observatory. shite got weird that night.

If there was one thing I'd change about Auburn it would be this. That said, it's proximity to Atlanta allowed me to go see good acts and, you know, there's always Bonnaroo.

Jason Isbell and assorted members of Drive-by-Truckers play fairly regularly. Still a bit perturbed they claim Athens since they are from Muscle Shoals.

As for Auburn's best music venue, it's Standard Deluxe in Waverly. 280 Boogie is always fun.

I really like George's. Been to a few shows there.

For Oxford I really like Proud Larry's for a punk/rock show. shite gets crazy.

Blind Pig is nice for acoustic shows, but they don't have enough of them.

The Lyric has gotten some bigger acts to come through. Ones I'm looking forward to soon are Jason Isbell/Cory Branan in September and Brand New in October.

I hung out in a group with the cowboy mouth singer last week. Used to go to private acoustic CCR shows on the porch at rick's.
