Perusing the link I provided, it appears that New Orleans has some great charter schools.

This link, is sorted for Arkansas. But you can just change the state to find the national ranking of schools.

Today I learned that the high school I attended is now 85% minority, up from the 64% when I was there.

I had never heard of it until I saw it mentioned here and I googled it. Oh well, I'm just a hick from the Tennessee Valley.

No ... actually, my Mother is a Texan. Half my family is Texan.

I suppose, sometimes, it just gets old ... the "Texas is best" crap.

No one else does it, as a state. And I get it. We do it as a region ... The South is definitely the best in this world.

But sometimes, I suppose, I wish Texans wouldn't do it. I have to hear that shite every year at Christmas from the uncles and cousins. Fact of the matter is that it doesn't compute with reality.

LINK

I wish Texas, especially our A&M brothers, would get-on-board with the program. It's all about The South. That's how it's always been ... that's how it always will be.

Texas ain't the South.

Texas is better than the South.

Texas is better than America.

Texas is better than the entire goddamn worl--

No way this is right, STL has a school stared and monitored as a Harvard feed-in school, and that's not on the list. its 90% again too.

Haas Hall Academy is a charter in Fayetteville. They've skimmed off the top 200 super nerds who would otherwise be in Fayetteville High School, which has dropped FHS in rankings.

HHA is a fantastic school, for a kid who doesn't want anything but academics and maybe a little bit of music.

Northwest Arkansas public schools are still mostly good overall.

Other state universities, in particular Louisville and EKU, are planning similar schools with their respective county school systems.

I was under the impression the Model Lab was one of the best public schools in the state and it was run under EKU.

Alabama would be Mountain Brook or Bob Jones.

Agree. Bob Jones gets ranked lower than they should on these partly because they bus kids in from Triana (an agreement they made when they branched from Madison County Schools and created Madison City Schools). It is equivalent to Mountain Brook bringing in kids from Fairfield.

Yes, Richmond Model is an excellent school but it isn't dedicated to gifted students. There's a sort of default selection of high-achieving students because of the first-come, first-served application process, though. Also, Model is pre-K through 12th grade. Gatton and STEAM are high school only.

I heard they had someone from the State Dept. supervise their "lottery" this upcoming year after lots of complaints about how they were clearly skimming. We'll see if they can maintain their standards. Of course, they also have a way of making underperforming kids so miserable that they quit and return to regular public schools, so it may not make that much difference.
