Best High Schools in each State.

Wonder why Alabama got a n/a?

Things that make you go hmmmmm.

SC's Charter Magnet HS in North Charlietown rated as 7th best HS in the entire country.

I agree ... home-schooling will become all the rage again once the Poli-Wars have concluded and I am king over everything, as it should be.

These lists are always amusing, for Virginia they chose a public magnet school - on paper it's a decent choice, good scores and a decent matriculation list, but those come at a cost. It's an academic sweatshop that puts numbers ahead of everything else. That's fine for getting into college, but social skills do actually matter - at some point you will have to interview for a job, you will have to work with a team, you'll have to do something more than cram for an exam.

Georgia's is correct but Kentucky's is off imo. I would say one of the private schools or Male or Manual would be a better choice.

I think so, too. The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Bowling Green is far above any other high school academically. They've been ranked #1 in the nation in the recent past.

Highlands High is no slouch but they're no competition for Gatton Academy. I have no idea why they were picked.

Alabama would be Mountain Brook or Bob Jones.

23% of Bob Jones seniors scored 30 or over on their ACT in 2013. That's 130 kids. Not too shabby.

Mountain Brook is the #1 school in Alabama? You sure about that? I am almost positive you are wrong.

Public school? Pretty damn sure. We aren't going to count Indian Springs.

The JCIB has been ranked first in the state for a number of years, and even claimed the #1 overall spot on this list a few years ago.

Mnt Brook easily and it really isn't even close. My kids could walk there, but we are zoned Vestavia.

Trying to talk my youngest into going to Altamont. He's there for a summer school class now.

The Gatton Academy is associated with WKU and its students begin to take college courses in their junior and senior years. It has been a highly successful joint venture between the public school system and WKU.

UK and the Lexington public school system opened the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy in August of 2013. The high school's main building is being constructed adjacent to UK's College of Education. Gifted students from all over the metro area are being recruited to attend the school, to a capacity of 600.

Other state universities, in particular Louisville and EKU, are planning similar schools with their respective county school systems.

This is wonderful news for Kentucky's gifted students. Finally, academics is achieving a level of importance at or above that of athletics.
