Voices aside, the sound is very distinctive for those bands - to me. That's why I opened for discussion.

No, you self-aggrandizing weirdo.

Every phish and widespread panic song sounds exactly the same. Your name and avatar reminded of bands that fit the subject of the thread.

Every panic song sounds the same. I will give you that. Phish on the other hand, not even close.

If Journey put out something new I would know who it was when they started playing - that's all I'm saying.

They're the exact same band just with different facial hair.

A lot of Pink Floyd sounds the same, but it is a fantastic sound.

They were pretty diverse too. None of their albums really sound alike. The Wall is more rock, Wish is singer/songwriter-esque, DSOTM is pretty psychedelic, and Animals is Animals, not really even sure how to describe it.

Being distinct and having a sound that's recognized, isn't a bad thing. I don't believe any of their songs are that similar either.

There's lots of bands you can recognize by their unique sound though.

U2
Van Halen
Evanesscence
Bon Jovi
Bad Company

are just a few that most can recognize pretty easily by their sound/style.

Thanks. Listing BC made me think of GFR, they were distinct, to me.

That's what I'm saying. Most good bands or bands with lots of staying power have a distinctive sound, which makes them recognizable. I can tell a Stones song the first three notes of it, but their songs don't sound alike. Just making the distinction that a good band's sound being consistent isn't the same as their songs sounding the same.

Bands that sound the same?

See: Linkin park, staind, cold, marilyn manson, nine inch nails, rage against the machine, phish, cake, widespread panic, nickleback, ac/dc, pearl jam,

Different bands that sound the same and can't be distinguised apart: three days grace, chevelle, & shinedown.... any 80's hair band

Again with the Phish. They have more different sounds than any band in the last 50 years. That's part of the appeal.

So you just aren't very knowledgeable about their music. That's fine, but don't say all their stuff sounds the same, because its about the opposite from the truth.
