So what happens if you're wrong? You thought about that?

All that wasted time in church. All those times you prayed. All those times you seemed guidance from deceased loved ones.

They can't hear you. You know why? They've returned to the Earth. Eternal rest is silent, and black. And religion is nothing but a fairy tale to distract you from the cold truth. This is it folks. You get one ride. Live it.

Why does every religious person think this is some great argument?

Funny. I haven't even had so much as the common cold in years. I also lead a very content life. Funny how these studies work.

I don't think they were saying EVERY atheist is ill longer and die sooner. It's just like people who say the south is nothing but gun toting bigoted rednecks. I'm none of those things but that's what a large chunk of southerners are.

This is what you say if you want a religious person to hear you out and not get angry.

I'm agnostic at best. I stopped believing after my 7 month old son died.

I want NOTHING to do with a fricker that would take a 7 month old from his mother.

The point, regrettably, is rarely about being heard out. Religion, politics, team loyalty in sports...I've found people are more interested in proving their superiority than in actually having some kind of dialogue or reaching common ground.

Bingo. Religious people need to figure out that they're not going to convert people by saying "REPENT OR BURN!" and atheists need to realize they don't sound intellectually superior by saying "You worship a fairy tale. All hail the flying spaghetti monster!" because it makes them no better than the Bible thumpers they hate.

Yep. In most cases with religion though, there likely won't be common ground.

I think Christians make the mistake of trying to "convince" others of Christianity. In my humble opinion, it's a mistake. You can't argue someone into salvation.

I like to think of the parable of the rich man, who went to Jesus and asked what he needed to do to be saved. He was told to sell all his belongings and to follow Jesus. This saddened him and he walked away. I learned 2 things from this...

1. Jesus didn't argue with the man. He simply told him what he needed to do. That's all Christians are to do, spread the word and knowledge. The decision at that point is on the receiver of it.

2. In not arguing and trying to convince the man, Jesus continued on his way, to help and spread the Word to those who would hear it. That means, again imho, that Christians can be discerning in who and how they help. One need not waste time on those who don't wish to know or learn and their time is better spent going to those who haven't been reached.

Just my opinion of course.

All of this. Just plant the seed and if the soil is has the nutrients, then it will grow. You can't force something to grow somewhere but you have to at least spread the word and not in a douche way.

Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how I would cope with something like that. Can't blame you for not believing anymore. Sometimes I wish I could force myself to believe, but too many bad things happen to good people that it all seems so stochastic and pointless.

Sorry. Guess if my life wasn't so short and selfish I'd come up with more meaningful conversation.

So you link to a blog, that links to a Heritage Foundation (very conservative think tank) interpretation of studies and, and that also cites some random editorial from a no name newspaper.
