RIP to a man who served this country for a very long time.
Going to be very interesting to see what happens with Obama trying to nominate someone, or we'll see if it falls on the next president.

Why would we wait until the next president takes office? That's nearly a year away.
Obama will nominate Scalia's replacement. That's appropriate,

Wasn't a fan, he was a republican hack... I think judges should be neutral

Obama will nominate, but it will be a meaningless gesture. The Senate will certainly reject no matter who it is. They won't let him tip the court further left with less than a year left in his term.

Obama will try, but it still has to get through the Senate. I think he'll get it through, but it's not a certainty.

No way in hell unless he nominates a conservative and that won't happen.

It probably won't happen, but do consider the recess appointment.

America is screwed unless the republicans stand up and don't allow another America hating liberal to be appointed to the bench.
RIP Mr. Scalia. A great American gone.

I am going to guess replacement in 3 - 6 months. Probably the first one will not pass through but the 2nd or 3rd will. Especially as it is an election year, if the Republicans try to wait a full year it could be political suicide as the Dems could use it against them from convention to election.

I don't think there are enough conservatives left to stop America's drift to the left. You shouldn't mistake the right-wing takeover of Kentucky as a sign that the rest of the nation will follow suit.
Bevin played on the disinterest of most Kentucky voters to seize the governor's office with just 16% of eligible voters. That won't happen at the national level. For some reason, Americans think that voting in national elections is more important than state and local races.

The only thing neutral in the universe is neutrons. Everything else pulls one way or the other.

Still has to be confirmed when Congress returns to session. If the Republicans still control the Senate, the appointee will be a dead man walking without ever having ruled on a case.

It is literally the most important thing a president does but the average voter cannot name a Supreme Court justice. It will not matter in the election at all.

Correct. The Overton Window is moving left and it may never move back. The GOP is going to have to find new angles to appeal to younger and non-white voters if they want to be viable in the decades going forward.
