I think that's kind of why people have a thing against these companies...being able to withstand a 5M loss and still being able to operate is pretty amazing. Pure conjecture on my part, but I would guess that the market is an oligopoly at worst.

I see. This will sound like a rhetorical question, but I don't really mean it as such...then what is the point of taking doctors out for food/drinks if all the important stuff doesn't occur there?

A couple of things. The differences between the drugs in a lot of cases are pretty minor. So, if you're taking an ARB, you're taking an ARB. They could almost put those in the water, the safety profile is so clean. So, if I'm selling an ARB, I need a relationship to differentiate my product. That is the case in dozens of drug classes. Back in the day when antihistamines weren't OTC, there wasn't a huge difference between Zyrtec and Claritin and Allegra was right there too. The intranasal steroids were the same. So when you have very similar drugs, you need a relationship to break through or maintain your business level.

And now, taking doctors out for dinner or drinks doesn't really happen.

As to losing a $5M contract, of course a multibillion company can survive losing a $5M contract. An individual rep can't.

I love it...cow attacks killed 20 people. More than three times as many as Cannabis, Ebola, snake bites and ISIS combined. Thanks Obama!
