Yup.
Coming from someone who's done threads like this where there have been in-thread nominations, and nominations by email.
It's much easier to keep it in-thread, and it's fun to watch people's feelings get hurt.

You need some people who aren't regular IM-ers, but are common on the Rant, to head things up.
Otherwise it's gonna be a big circle jerk of the daily IM crowd. It's gonna be a big circle jerk regardless, but you could make it a more inclusive circle jerk, instead of deepening the clique.

There is no clique. Anyone can post in the IM threads. They just choose not to do so.

Probably would work.
Just have to get people to actually email. A lot of times, people won't.
One year, had over 50 people nominate posters for the Hall of Flame in thread.

This is probably my biggest fear. I sincerely hope that it's not the same 10-15 people showing up for every single award with the winner just being who got all their buddies to vote for em.

Kind of what I was going for. We get the best of both worlds. We can laugh at the people who get butthurt over a meaningless internet popularity contest during the nomination process, but still preserve some degree of surprise as to who wins what.

Clique doesn't exist like you think.
The only people who get shite on in IM threads are people who show up starting shite, like MizzouSEC2012.

It worked well for Brageous and the Droppies on the TD OT so I don't see why it wouldn't work on this one.
