It's hard to tell anyway whether the moodiness is a result of the accutane or just being 16

Taken from my post on this subject in the OT back in January:

My little sister (sorry, no pics) took it in high school, we were both blonde-haired/olive-skinned all our lives. It changed her complexion and now she's a fair-skinned whitey.

Heard it wrecks your liver. Go get the big jugs of Aloe Vera juice and start drinking it.

No. Tylenol does more damage to a liver than Accutaine.

I used it for about 3 months when I was a freshman in high school. Only side effects were red eyes & dry skin. Had skin like porcelain afterwards & never another breakout. I highly recommend it.

It's one of the possible side effects, but you get closely monitored so that it doesn't happen. You get bloodwork like every 2-4 weeks (I can't remember how often). The most serious side effect is birth defects, which males don't have to worry about.

Good luck, I don't think you'll regret it. Other than Lasik it's the best medical process I've undergone

Fwiw, I've known 3 people who have died from liver failure due to too much Tylenol (acetaminophen); zero from Acutaine.

Most all prescription medications can affect liver & kidneys, which is why blood work is done, periodically, to check liver & kidney functions any time someone is taking long term meds. Generally, Acutaine isn't taken long enough to do damage unless there is a pre-existing problem with the liver and/or kidneys.

Of all of the females I've known who have taken Acutaine over the years, none have children with birth defects. I believe that is a concern when it us taken over a long period of time, and the female either gets pregnant while on it or just after the cessation of it. This is also usually a concern with most prescribed meds. It isn't unique to Acutaine.

Nooooo !!! Acutaine causes red eyes!! Plus, it was a good cover after being out on the weekends.

I don't take Tylenol. It's dangerous.

Should have stayed in and read books and studied like I did.

It worked for me. Dries your face out ALOT. Have to get lab work to check liver function every so often. Helped me a lot.

yeah, my whole body dried up. I had to constantly use lotion on my arms because I broke out with hives when I first started using it.

It's a pretty intense medication, but if your acne is very severe -as mine was- then it's worth it. It works wonders.

There have been a few threads on the regular O-T. One guy said it was making him insane. Most others were OK. I would incur all the dryness and pain, otherwise, you're going to be like me in your 30's and still fighting this crap.
