So I guess it is ok for you to do drugs but not one of your employees?

and an unjust policy to drug test.

Not when they have to operate machinery that requires full attention...the article says he worked for the processing plant but he was actually on the seining crew on the farm. That requires driving tractors, a boat, riding the mudline in the water, operating a hydraulic boom loading fish onto trucks under power lines.

It's safety reasons and we already got in big trouble last year with OSHA for a guy getting killed on the job and then a week later another one getting injured and airlifted to Jackson.

And what about the rest of them?

They aren't forced to live that way. We are hiring right now for night oxygen checkers that get paid 10.75 an hour, and needed people to operate a mowing crew.

We are having to fill most of those spots with people from South Africa and Mexico through a gov't program that lets them come here and work, provided we give them proper housing, over 9 bucks an hour, and fully furnish the house.

The reason why is the lack of applications from locals who are willing to work. They'll work for a month then quit to get back on unemployment...and we can't afford that because it takes 2 weeks to train a new person well enough to let them work on their own without injuring themselves or destroying equipment.

I just got out of college.

I'm referring to the farm my dad manages. I didn't do them when I worked there.

I now own my own small farm that I started this spring so I can do whatever the frick I want

Are one in every three 20-24 year olds actively seeking work but are unable to find it ? That sounds skewed

I hate everything about the delta. I really do. I promised myself I'd never go back once I finished highschool. It terrifies me to know that I'm interviewing for a job tomorrow in Greenwood. I wouldn't be able to turn it down though.

Greenwood is close enough to the outer edge of the Delta to get out quickly.

Well that's a lie.

As you would be the first farmer in the history of the delta's past, present, and future to drug test farm workers.

Meh. Greenwood is right in the thick of the Delta.

Greenwood may be very Delta as far as way of life but it is still outer edge location wise

Hire Bulgarian J-1 Students. They love to work and put anyone else to shame. They'll come here, work 2-3 jobs at a time in the summer and bring home more money than the Avg. Bulgarian makes in a year.

Well Greenwood is probably the best town left in the Delta. Lots of late 20s early 30s live there.
