Wrestling Breaks MAC scoring record: Qualify 8 for NCAA's

125: Barlow does just enough, literally, to scrape through in 5th place. Such a frustrating wrestler this season. But, still headed to St. Louis.

133: Erneste came for blood. Avenges prior losses on his way to a MAC championship, NCAA bid, and possibly a top 10 seed. Really strong performance.

141: Eierman wins his first conference title in what was the weakest weight. Got the job done, which is all that matters.

149: Mayes has a slugfest in the finals, but comes out on top, winning a conference title and avenging his loss in the dual. Seeding for 149 is going to be crazy. Could be anywhere from 2-6 at NCAA's.

157: Joey Lavalle continues his run, with a conference title in hand. The owner of his only loss on the season failed to weigh in at EIWA's, so Joey has no demons right now. Hasn't seen the top of the weight yet, but should be a really high seed...2-4 range.

165: Lewis was locked in this weekend. Did his business, returned to his form. Conference title, looking good. 165 is stacked, so seeding will be very interesting. Could be anywhere in Top 8.

174: Wisman didn't wrestle well. Probably tossed away what small chance he had at an At-Large bid. An offseason of improvement should help him tremendously.

184: Lemanowicz almost shocks the world. Falls one point short 2 times in qualifying matches. But can't fault the effort. Wrestled really well. 184 is actually not seeing any upsets, so there is a flicker of hope for an At-Large with his performance. 6 At-Larges should be available, and only 1 AQ didn't make a spot.

197:J'den doing J'den. 4X conference champ.

285: Austin Myers wrestles the best he has all year and pulls a big upset to win 3rd, snatching a NCAA spot. Outside of the Top 10, Heavyweight is pretty weak this year. That could give Myers a shot at winning a match or two in St. Louis. But good on Myers, turning it up at the right time.


Overall: We romped through. 6 out of 10 champions. Broke our previous record by 10 points. Wisman was the only real letdown, unless you want to count Barlow. Everyone else wrestled really well, pulling off some upsets and settling scores. On to St. Louis!
