Like I said. I have doubts, but none of us know what's going on internally.

I don't think he just forgot football. I think he's having a very difficult time adjusting to the head role, he made a poor choice at DC and also a poor choice to change the scheme, and the team isn't good enough to mask things like that. Now significant injuries are piling up.

quote: "OK, I reread my post, I never said the team was ready made. He wasn't brought in for a rebuild, he was brought in because Pinkel retired. There was supposed to be continuity.

But truthfully its not his fault. If Pinkel doesn't get cancer, BO is at Memphis getting experience as a HC."

BoC told GP you have a choice. You're fired immediately or retire at the end of the season with severance. The big checkbooks said GP has to go due to the protest, and they meant it. His health situation was a convenient excuse.

According to Gabe with PM and others, Pinkel would have kept coaching despite the health issues. But he wasn't allowed.

was BO the preferred choice to replace him? Or did they want someone else? I ask because it seemed like it took a long time to hire him.

BoC was behind all of it. They want that SEC money for anything other than athletics. AD knew it and ran, telling any interested party who asked. BO is the chump to take the fall.

Its Babs all over again.

Then why in the world are they dropping over 100M into the stadium?

I understand a lot of it is donations, but there are also significant bonds being used.

If we could have hired a 5M dollar a year coach last year I have little doubt that we would have.

Are they? I've seen a lot of nice drawings, but I also hear they were shocked by the cost of the east side expansion. We'll see what Sterk comes up with I guess. But they were never going to go all in on a big paycheck coach.

We'll pay a coach the money if we can ever attract a coach that commands that much.

Would you feel better about the commitment if Odom was making 5M per?

There were a lot of mistakes made on hiring Odom.
(1)
quote:

But they were never going to go all in on a big paycheck coach.
. The athletic director should have hired a proven head coach with a winning record. There is too steep of a learning curve for a newly promoted coordinator to head coach.
(2) While a true son of Missouri is nice, that as the over riding major criteria put Mizzou football where it is today, having to hire a head coach with no previous head coaching experience.
(3) The university should have a budget large enough to attract and hire experienced coordinators.
(4) If as a head coach you are changing schemes, hire a coordinator who has previous experience with the scheme. Learning on the job in the rugged SEC is not recommended.
(5) Hire coaches with proven track records who can evaluate and recruit talented players.
(6) Mizzou is now put in the unenviable position of having to keep Odom, because Mizzou isn't going to fire him. You should never undermine a new coach that way. However Odom is going to have to upgrade coordinators to keep his job.

As an aside. I have always admired Mizzou football from a distance and unfortunately in the short term going forward, Mizzou football is in for some hard times.
