Unless we are prepared to step up our bagman game big time then no one is recruiting consistent top 15 classes here.
As I have said before - if we want to recruit the same kids the blue-bloods recruit, we better get lessons from Auburn, Ole Miss, etc in proper care and use of tBagman.

Have heard this. But he was also very popular with his players.
His record at SC when he stepped in was very good, I believe. He may have learned some things and be better as a HC next time around.

The man can recruit, has he ever been caught if dirty?

In 1991 as an assistant at Miami, (wikipedia) “a "permanent injunction of protection" was granted to a woman by a Dade County court against Orgeron prohibiting "any act of domestic violence." Orgeron was ordered into a 26-week domestic violence counseling program.”
In 1992, still an assistant at Miami, he was arrested in a bar fight in Baton Rouge. You know something is wrong when you’ve done five years at Miami, then get back into coaching after a year hiatus at Nichols State.
At Southern Cal earlier this decade, Orgeron was THE recruiting coordinator while Reggie Bush made off with that $100K.
At Ole Miss, Orgeron’s very first meeting with the team, he referenced his own new players as MF’s. In the heat of the moment, that’s not even acceptable. Would it be okay for a history professor to tell his class, first day, “All you MF’s are going to learn a lot in this history class”?
After Hurricane Katrina, with Tulane’s program in shambles (before they were able to share facilities with Louisiana Tech, and thus keep playing the season), Orgeron called Greg Davis’ son, and Tulane assistant, and tried to begin poaching players for Ole Miss from the Tulane program. Davis turned him in. Nothing ever came of it after Orgeron pretended he didn’t know it was a violation.
Highly ticked Tulane head coach Chris Scelfo said of Orgeron, "there's people in our business who do not belong in our business". Scelfo was correct.
At Tennessee all the sudden - Orgeron having only been there a year - six “minor” NCAA violations for the Vols.
Finally, after leaving Tennessee, Orgeron called early recruits at Tennessee, trying to recruit them to USC…after they were already technically enrolled at Tennessee. Had he forgotten the rules he had already learned after his own Tulane scandal?

I literally saw him recruit Michael Oher. He was right there in the living room and Sandra Bullock even smiled. Nothing dirty at all.

And if Fuente stays (he's not), Odom has two other SEC DC offers.
Pretty sure I heard on the radio that all of the assistants under their own contracts.
If so, lateral moves are not allowed. Correct?

Exactly, unless the new coach let's him go. Odom should go to Memphis and get HC experience, especially coming from the defensive side of the ball.
We get very emotional about Odom, but just reading the resume, he has 2 winning seasons at DC, no history of above avg recruiting, and has hired 1 assistant. If not for his Mizzou ties, no way he would be in the discussion. If not for his Memphis ties, would he be in the discussion there?
What's the rush, just because he played at Mizzou? Let the guy go develop a HC process, win some games, then make the jump.

1. The reason some fans like Odom is because he might retain Kul, Ivey, etc. But I agree with you SurgV.
2. Here's an excellent analysis by D. Morrison of CoMO Trib - The Profile of an SEC Head Coaching Hire. He looks at the 18 hires SEC teams have made since 2007. I recommend it to AD Rhoades.

Lots of good go from defense to HC. The only thing that really matters is if he can do the job.

My crystal ball sez Odom to Memphis (they've already talked to him)...and we get a surprise at Mizzou.

Actually very few DCs do well if their first HC job is a power 5 job. Bob Stoops is the last I can remember and that was 16 years ago he was hired.
But several do well when they start in smaller conferences. Like Dantonio starting at Cincy.

Not many coaches go from coordinator to HC in P5. If Osom can do it, and the AD thinks he is the right guy. Then he should be the one hired.

Now is Jagd's time!!
You should post this to the Rant addressed to him.

I know those are the rules in the NFL. So when I heard the interviewee mention all of the assistants contracts had semi-recently been extended, thus buying time for the incoming HC to determine who he wanted to retain, I assumed the same rules applied. Maybe not.
I tried to Google search the question but didn't have the patience to rifle through the extensive studies commissioned on assistant movement impact on continuity, etc. Although just doing another quick search turned up this article from earlier this year with Gundy bitching about one of assistants making a lateral move. Interesting that this Okie State assistant's contract had a buyout.
Hopefully ours have something similar that will allow the new HC to hold onto the good ones.

After reading that I can conclude:
The more experience the better (I'm surprised)
The more HC experience the better (I'm surprised)
The more P5 experience the better (I'm surprised)
Hot coaches from non P5 teams frequently flame out in the SEC.
The best place to hire a HC from is Toledo

I'm not interested in the Toledo guy.

That was a bit tongue in cheek. But it's hard to argue with Pinkel and Saban
