Had a discussion with a University employee today.

An assistant coach has said they've been told that if they don't get to 8 wins, they're getting the ax. I find this hard to believe, but there's the rumor.

Another coach has opined that he thinks this will be a good year for the team despite the media picks for the team.

Biggest rumor in the conversation: Loftin told Pinkel to support the protests as a way of taking out Wolfe.

Unrelated: new president is doing work. We will likely have newish chancellors at all four system campuses by the beginning of the next school year. Lots of streamlining to come in duplication of processes on the campuses. We may also see a return to Univ of Mo Columbia, UMR, UMSL and UMKC.

If you're in the Engineering department at Mizzou, maybe start looking for a job. Extrapolate that out to how it might play out.

Nothing wrong with lighting a fire under people's asses.

Did Wolfe sleep with Loftin's wife!?

Wouldn't be surprised if that's the belief and I wouldn't be surprised if it was spoken in some form. I also believe if they finish with 7 wins and the losses are not embarrassing that no one will get fired. I'm sure there is some fluidity to it but the point was hopefully made....perform or get out. Should be true of every coach.

given mizzou will be better in two years than next year, I believe as long as we have some sort of improvement, coaches are fine

Not sure what is a "given"?? I hope your optimism is not based on the influx of talent coming in with last place SEC and 60ish ranked recruiting classes.

I was always curious about Pinkel taking that stand. He was surely smart enough to know the fallout that would come with that.. I thought it was stupid on his part to show support for the protests. I also felt Kim .Anderson handled that in the best way, by talking with the players first, and laying out the ramifications for their actions. And he stayed out of the fray, which in my opinion was the smart thing to do. I also feel very strongly that Pinkel was forced out by the powers that be (the money people) for his actions in the protest. The cancer thing was a smoke screen, especially since his cancer had been in remission since the previous May. I imagine that in no uncertain degree the football financial supporters leaned heavily on someone to give him the option of retiring or getting fired at the end of the year.
I have no facts to back this up, but 2 and 2 just didn't add up to 4 for me.

His hands were tied either way. If he didn't stand with the players he lost. If he did, he lost. The only way to save the football program was to stand with the players. I think he did what he did because he saw the long term implications. He knew he was screwed no matter what. Sad way to end his career at MU. I can only imagine his disappointment

I know there are always more players to rotate in, but what makes you think that?

Your best QB will be gone.
Your best WR will be gone.
Nearly half of your OL will be gone.
Your best DE will be gone.
Your best DT will be gone.
Your 2nd best DT will be gone.

I certainly hope so, but was thinking the other day that if we're gonna do something, this is the year. You have Lock with the most experience he will have as a Tiger. You have Moore, taking pressure off the others to be "the man". You have your entire OL returning this year. This is the year for the offense if there is one.

While the defense takes a bit of a hit on the line, you still have 1 more year of TBJ and Frazier, who have experience. Who the hell knows with the LB's and DB's this year or next.

I think Lock stays for his senior year.

Maybe. If he has a good season, he'd be foolish to come back.

Yeah, I just don't know. He's a Miz legacy and I think wants to build on his progress before entering the draft. Unless this season is an unbelievable one for him, I can see him staying. At least, I hope he doe

GP was told that he was leaving one of two ways. A swift goodbye or his current fundraising deal. His cancer only played into his personal decision.

None taken. I find it unlikely as well. Especially if we have 7 wins.

Pinkel had to "support" the players to preserve any shot at recruiting worthwhile players. Difference with Anderson? Lot easier to handle a situation like that the way you want to when it's the offseason and you don't have to worry about any games.

Loftin? - Everything I have read about his actions during the lead up, protests, and aftermath suggest Loftin focused on taking care of Loftin through the whole mess.

Nearly half of your OL will be gone. True, but Im a big fan of a few of the backups
Your best DE will be gone. This is really the only side that I see hurting
Your best DT will be gone. Those Jucos we brought in are studs
Your 2nd best DT will be gone.

Now to add to that, you'll have maybe the best RB if not just in the SEC in the country on your team. The secondary will be older. Those linebackers we just got this recruiting class are supposed to be some kind of special.

I always thought Missouri just had incredibly bad luck with that whole thing. BLM, whether you agree or disagree with them, erupted almost over night. Sure, there had been protests at small California colleges but they protest out there so much professors probably schedule it in their clas syllabus. This was the first major university in the country to see this.

Yes, Ferguson was in Missouri but I don't think the administrators ever really thought that Columbia would become ground zero for a major protest. If its anything like Fayetteville then its probably one of the most diverse and tolerant cities in the state. Unlike some schools out there Missouri has never held a reputation as being racist. Who would have thought this would explode on y'alls doorstep?

But it did. Again, Missouri was just horribly unlucky. If another school had gone through that then y'all would have done what other schools did when BLM tried to protest on the campus... tell them they are free to protest but if they keep it up longer then a day or two they're going to be expelled from the University.

It caught everyone, Pinkel included, flat footed and it could have happened at any college campus in America. Its a damn shame it happened to Pinkel who deserved to not have this hanging over his tenure at Missouri.
