I don't know that losing half the OL would matter. They were ok last season, but not great. None were close to all-conference level players, except maybe Adams.

The offensive coaches really schemed around that weakness.
A bigger losss would be if Huepel were to leave for a HC job.

People say that, but we haven't seen that anywhere else. That means there is obviously steps that could have been taken by Pinkel that wouldn't have put him in that position. Minnesota had a protest saying they wouldn't play the game, and somehow, someway, the coaches/admin, etc. changed their minds and they played without protest. and the story was squashed.

The only way to save the football program was to stand with the players

There is lots of ways to handle that besides cancelling practice and endorsing their position (whatever it may be).

Like some have said, this happened during a losing season. If they were winning, I don't think they get involved.

I will always look at the protest and see an opportunity lost. They should have protested for getting paid instead of someone who was NOT being discriminated against.

Other schools could have joined in and they would have some leverage to get something of a stipend.

Big name programs that year that were not going to a bowl or to a big time bowl were: Texas, Va Tech, Miami, Penn State, Nebraska, Washington, Auburn, and Texas A & M.

If those schools joined in and a couple more they may have gotten something. But that ship has sailed and that opportunity is gone.

They already had Fleck ready to go, sexual assault allegations will do that, and still played the bowl game.

Also...the story died. Take from it what you will...but there is definitely things that could have been done differently in handling the protest to squash the story.

Minnesota was also gearing up to protest a real ordeal.

You still lose a chunk of a so-so line then which makes you exactly what?

The original point was that the coach was screwed either way.

Story went away because it is a different issue. In 2014 there were 26 reported rapes at Stanford. 35 at Virginia. One article in the last 3 years on the issue and it was over a year ago.

You are correct 3 of the top 6 OL on the depth chart from media days are seniors. The bigger question is are any of them better than replacement level players?

I'm pretty confident that 2 of them are not, Howell maybe being the exception. With a year of development I'm pretty confident that Castillo, Cook, Durant, Harris, Simms and the incoming recruits will be at least at the level 2 of the 3 are right now.

Ploudre wouldn't have had to walk on anywhere if not for the last play of pre season practice before his Jr year. He was a beast before requiring 7 surgeries to repair his left leg.
