Well put SEMO.

But isn't that the classic dilemma? Education, at the University level especially, is a business - it has to make money to feed the machine of research. But business people sure don't think like academics, and academics don't like that. They have to co-exist, and it can be really uncomfortable.

Here is the thing about Wolfe. I don't support him being removed but if he isn't smart enough to realize that ignoring a racial protest on campus is not going to end well then he probably isn't smart enough to be the system president.

Wolfe is a businessman - from technology. He's probably not necessarily touchy-feely, and he was definitely tone-deaf to what was going on. That's why he had to go - he lost the support over time of all the factions (faculty, students and administration) and in the process led Mizzou to be embroiled in a huge PR nightmare. It went on to the point that a mea culpa was't going to do it.
The sad thing is that I think Loftin probably has that touch to have navigated this successfully, had he just done it. Maybe he was distracted by all the hate coming his way from faculty, maybe his hands were tied by Wolfe, I don't know. This was probably inevitable for him too, but I probably feel worse about him.

This was written by a Mizzou student named Jessie Sharon. I copied it from facebook. I think it is outstanding.
"Today I learned that my university is run by its football team. Today I learned that the media cares more about creating a story than uncovering the truth. Today I learned that the right of a small group to protest is more important than the entire student body's right to the education they pay for. Today I learned that one man is responsible for the heinous actions of a few campus racists. Today I learned that not supporting one group protesting racism makes you a racist, even though you support the fight against racism--just not that specific group. Today I am not proud to be a tiger."

Yeah, it's not a good day for sure.
I would add to that list though - today we learned that any narcissistic prick with an agenda who is skilled in social media can catapult themselves into media stardom while leaving a mass of manipulated pawns in their wake. These are the times we live in. This turned into a nightmare in less than 48 hours - and no one died, there was no gunfire, nothing was stolen or set on fire. It's pretty incredible, when you think about it.
On the other hand, Dr. Cindy Frisby from the JSchool was interviewed today on CNN. She had posted some of her personal experiences at MU and in Columbia with racism on Facebook and it went viral. She wasn't whining about it, but mentioned how one student told her he couldn't call her Doctor Frisby because that would be admitting she was smart, and he didn't believe black people were smart. Yes, an actual college student. She has been called n****r by other faculty members. Anyway, after her interview - some coward hiding behind a computer sent her an image of a Confederate flag. Maybe there is a real problem here that needs to be fixed.

This is why he has to go. Regardless of how he handled their complaints, he handled this situation like shite.

Today I learned that I'm still gonna wake up in the morning. Today I learned that I'm still gonna go to work tomorrow. Today I learned that tomorrow night I'm gonna bang my wife.
Seriously, I get her sentiment but half that crap is Chicken Little stuff. Everyone has the right to protest, whether you agree with it or not, so that's a stupid comment in itself. No one is preventing her from going to class so I really don't get that comment either. One man may or may not be culpable in allowing a culture to fester. None of us really know. Well, except for her apparently. Today, I am not proud that she is a Tiger.

Naw semo. Status quo is always better. She should just learn to deal with. Or better yet. Show me the police report or I'm calling bullshite.

That's sickening. Wow

There are those who would rather bury their heads in the sand and show their bare asses than admit that where there's smoke there's fire.

Sad thing about this is that the football players got involved, put this shite in the media. Believe me other SEC schools have their fair share of race problems. But airing dirty laundry out in national media is not good. Mizzou's football players should have never got involved. Will hurt the school more than help.

I disagree.
Respectfully.

Not a white faculty member. Lol at people believing this shite. If a white faculty member called another faculty member this, they'd be drawn and quartered. And I mean that quite literally.

Some would say that keeping it suppressed and hidden in the closet is part of the problem and exposing it is what had to happen.
I don't know where I fall but I see both sides but something just sounds wrong about saying it should all be kept hush hush.

But you have to look at it from the fact that ESPN love talking about Mizzou's bad problems... rapes, girl committing suicide, now racism. Seems like there's more negative things going on at Mizzou than positive things. Most people outside of central Missouri probably didn't know things are that "bad" at Mizzou. Now it's national news.
ESPN's OTL will probably do a segment on the "racism" on campus. Only other SEC school that's been put in a bad light since Mizzou joined was Ole Miss with noose shite and Obama picture burnings.

Well, the way I see it, is, if these really are problems then they need to be exposed.
Sweeping them under the rug only creates a subversive environment.
I'm tired of trying to explain my point of view around here, so I'm not going to get into it any more.
For the record, I don't agree with everything that has gone down, but I see now what been hiding behind the curtains and it's ugly. I suspected as much, but it's way worse than I had previously thought.
I'm disappointed, but for reasons other than the group think around here are.

I agree. If a professor at Mizzou called a black professor the N word. That professor's arse should be fired. Tonight. Not tomorrow morning. Tonight.

Is there a motion on the floor to anchor all of these threads so we can get back to bitching about football and basketball?

Yeah. Burn them all down. I'm done talking about it.
