but how in the world did the Cubs wipe you guys out of the playoffs? They are paper tigers.

By throwing them fastballs right down the middle. MMs game plan was to kill them with kindness.

Mets kept them off balance with junk.

Cubs still finished better than the Cards...you should be very worried, Cubs are loaded and have money to spend on pitching. Cubs weren't even supposed to make playoffs this year.

Strongggggggggly disagree. In fact, until this year I didn't even view the Cubs as really a rival anymore. Only royals and Reds.

Don't bring us into this. We are focused on Toronto, so stop trying to distract us with rivalries and what not.

The Cards are loaded with pitching talent and tons of money to spend as well on hitters..

If either side believes anyone is running away with this division they need to stop hitting the pipe.

I did not until I moved to STL.. where every one of my friends/co-workers/neighbors makes a way bigger deal about than I ever have. Plus, there was no thread like this started after the cubs beat the cards... cards fans. obsessed.

Last night proved time and time again, the Cubs cant win and will never win. Heck Im better off rooting for the Cubs to fold the franchise or go out of business because its a more realistic possibility than the Cubs winning a World Series.

They tried spending 1/4 of a Billion Dollars on Players and that didnt work
They tried rebuilding through the draft and sure they got some good and decent hitters but they got no pitching. So that didnt work.

Nothing seems to work. Even at the Cubs best, there will always be some other team to rise up and will always be better than them.

- New York Mets *twice, 2015 and 1969*
- Los Angeles Dodgers
- Arizona
- Florida/Miami
- Atlanta
- San Francisco
- San Diego
- Detroit
- Philadelphia/Kansas City/Oakland A's
- Boston
- NY Yankees
- Chicago White Sox

No matter how good the Cubs are, there will always be some team to come out of nowhere and crush them when it matters. Why bother. Why does this team continue to exist?

Seems like your friends are making it a big deal since your a fan of the other team. Trust me, I've lived in STL for 24 years, I've been a Cards fan for 24 years, the cubs are fun little rivals that of course we would want to beat, but if for 1 second you think that beating the cubs was the whole plan, you must not know cardinal's baseball. Its WS or bust my friend, not beating you guys.

it's ridiculous that you would think this is unique to the cards. every MLB team has this mentality.

I guess you don't get what im trying to say. regardless, all im saying is the thought of the cardinals "only playing to beat the cubs" is extremely laughable, especially if one is denying it from the Cubs side.

Example:

Cards- This has been for the most part a disappointing year since we didn't make it to the WS with 100 wins. (and im only saying slightly due to the injuries)

Cubs- Gotta be thrilled with how this season went, you guys weren't supposed to compete for another year or two.

Why would the first round match up against the cubs mean more for us, from a bragging stand point?

Tell it to Joe Maddon. He was measuring the Cubs against the Cardinals all year in the press.

Thread logic: Maddon is obsessed with the Cardinals.

I do not disagree, I was making the point that saying the same about Cubs playing to beat the cards is laughable. why the frick would that be our goal? we cannot play each other in the world series.
