Figured we could get this stickied and just keep the conversation here.

How about Dave Clawson?

1989–1990 Albany (GA)
1991 Buffalo (DB)
1992 Buffalo (QB/RB)
1993 Lehigh (RB)
1994–1995 Lehigh (OC)
1996–1998 Villanova (OC)
1999–2003 Fordham
2004–2007 Richmond
2008 Tennessee (OC)
2009–2013 Bowling Green
2014–present Wake Forest

Has slowly rebuilt each program he has been to, even had Bowling Green win the MAC Championship. Wake Forest was a major rebuild, he got them back to a bowl last year and appears to have them on the right track this season. Maybe a name to keep an eye on.

Whomever it will be has to have a minimum of 3 yrs head coaching experience, believes in a special teams coach, and hopefully wants to stay 10-15 years like HCGP did.

I mean it's college football, finding a 10-15 year HC isn't always possible.

If we get to a point that the HC leaves for a Blue Blood, I'm honestly ok with that, that means we've had a lot of success and a successful program has been built. I can deal with that.

Here's a good read on Clawson.

IMO sounds like exactly what we need here.

quote:

"If they're not going to play significant snaps, we try to redshirt them," he said. "In the conference we play some pretty good football teams. I don't know if we're going to beat Clemson and Florida State on a lot of recruits. One of the ways we try to close the gap is on player development." For that, Clawson turns to a strength and conditioning coach that he's trusted for the better part of the last 12 years in Brandon Hourigan. He's a guy that allows Clawson and his staff to take some chances on undersized prospects because he knows he can trust in their strength development within the program. "I've always used the guideline, is he going to help us win or help us survive?" said Clawson. "I've felt if he's going to help us win then it's not fair to the player to redshirt him. If just going to help us survive, it's not fair to the player to play him because then you're sacrificing the long term goal of the program. I've had so many players where that fifth year is where it clicks." At the Florida States or Clemsons of the world, redshirt seniors are typically the career special teams players that haven't caught the eye of NFL scouts. At Wake Forest they're the stars. Cornerback Kevin Johnson was a first-round draft pick out of Wake in 2015 after finishing his fifth year in Winston Salem. Brandon Chubb went to the NFL a year later as a fifth year all-conference performer. As Clawson enters his fourth season year at Wake, all that roster patience is starting to pay off and yet there's still room for growth. There are only 10 seniors on the 2017 roster – six of them redshirts. The 2018 season could have as many as 23 seniors, all of them players recruited by Clawson.

There is only 5-7 teams that would be on the list of " I have to take this offer"

Ohio State
Michigan
Alabama
Texas/LSU
USC
Clemson
Florida State

Pinkle proved this is a good place to stay for 10-15 yrs if it is run properly. From the Board of Trustees down.

That is an approach, maybe the only approach, that will work here.

Add him to the list.

Normally, I'd say this is exactly the type of guy that we need but right now I'm thinking we need more of a energy type coach because the program is in the tank. I'm not sure a development guy is going to be given enough leash right now by the fans.

Nonetheless, an interesting name for sure.

How much is he making?

That's the catch, he's at a private school so no way to really know.

I did notice he just signed an 8 year extension in January though, so he might not be open to leaving already.

Clawson and Wake have a relatively tough out of conference schedule this year.

At first glance he does seem to be a builder.

Well worth following.

Our next head coach

Read through it. Impressive history. And we have a great experience with coaches from there.

Can't miss.

Im pretty heavy on the Frank Wilson bandwagon at this point. I'd like a little more experience, but I think we are somewhat going to have to take a chance and this guy just screams future star.

Idaho game could give us a preview of a potential option. Paul Petrino is coaching there. They went 9-4 last season.

Both candidates are intriguing, Wilson alittle more. Also wish he had more experience, but that SEC recruiting should highly be noted.

Frank Wilson

Already posted about him.

He was ranked as one of best recruiters in the game, while at LSU. Had some really good hauls as recruiting director.

And he's getting the HC experience now.

Missouri can pay for him to get quality arse coaches, and he now has ties to texas, which MU has already had ties 2, along with SEC country.

Oline coach has 2 stay, he's done one hell of a job, piecing this thing together.

Wilson doesn't really run the offense there, which isn't a bad thing imo. I really like HCs to leave the play calling to the coordinators.

Watched some of their highlights on YouTube. They look like they blend pro style and spread, I did see several snaps under center. Not sure if that it his philosophy or his OC, but I'm a fan. Couldn't really figure out if they were a super tempo team. I hope not. I'm pretty much done with that.

ETA:

Found a full game on YouTube and watched a couple series. They don't huddle, but they also don't try to snap the ball every 5 seconds. Liking him more the more I dig into him.

We need to pony up or face a decade of losing. With the right hire and enough assistant funding we can be back to competing in a relatively short time.

I guess my real question about Chip Kelly is why doesn't he have a job?
