Dave Christensen. No one has said he left on bad terms. His offenses did a lot without good OLineman. Getting good QB's to Missouri has never been a problem. Getting good OL will always been a problem

Mizzou's Offensive DNA is the spread because;

1. Mizzou doesn't recruit explosive WR's, they usually opt for taller receivers who present bad matchups.

2. Mizzou doesn't recruit top notch OL, so the spread helps thin out the defense, limiting stunts, LB pickups etc.

3. the spread does not depend on top-notch recruiting as much as it depends on execution, and a strong armed, quick release QB.

Therefore only 2 candidates come to mind...Christensen or Mangino. Now before you beat me down about Mangino, remember he was a good boy as OC for KSU and OU, he is only a dick when he is OC. And ISU averaged 422 ypg. Iowa State people, 422...do you know what our record would be with 422 ypg?

No and hell no.

422 yards per game in the Big 12 is equivalent to 250 in the SEC.

We need someone who can bring a balanced approach. Have to run the ball in this league.

Mizzou's spread attack was balanced. Josey was leading the Big 12 before his injury. And enough of the SEC kool-aide. These defenses are no tougher than faced in the Big 12. The exception is Bama and Mizzou's defense is better since joining the SEC. No one elses has been "SEC Better."

Sorry but this is not true by any means, sure not every team is loaded like Bama or LSU but overall the defenses are MUCH better

Mizzou just faced 3 top 25 defenses in a row. There's not 3 top 25 defenses in the Big 12.
The rest of the schedule Mizzou faces defenses that are comparable to the o es in the Big 12.

Assuming you're right, which of the last 3 defenses were you impressed with?

Vandy just won their first SEC game in 2 years.

Florida just beat Mizzou for the first time in 3 years.

Even playing like total crap, Mizzou should have beaten Georgia.

Even with the TERRIBLE offense, SEC defenses have not stood out. Oh except Mizzou's, Bama and LSU in spurts. Not Ole Miss's "Landshark" Auburn beat us with offense, not UT despite top 5 recruiting, forget USCe. Name 1 SEC game besides Bama, where the opposing defense was really impressive.

First one that came to my mind was 2014 UGA 34 - Mizzou 0. 2014 UF v. Mizzou which had 119 yds total and won with D and ST. Maybe 2014 USCe v. Mizzou, Tigers only moved the ball in the 4th Qtr.

But I am talking about a Ricker coached OL in 2014.

Good offenses beat good defenses. Over the last 15-20 only the Ravens have won a championship with a bad offense. In college or NFL. Baylor & TCU could be playing in the SEC and still average over 30 ppg. Mizzou did it 2 years ago.
With only an average offense Mizzou would be undefeated or a 1 loss team.

2014 USCe, terrible defense, fired the DC.

2014 UF, marginal defense, blamed on injuries, offense took most of the blame for the poor year. Beat UGA with a crazy running game performance, but still marginal defense.

2014 UGA...I'll give you that one.

So in summary, in 3 years of the SEC, 2 games have displayed a good, solid so called SEC defense. 2014 UGA, (but i'll include 2012) and 2014 Bama (again i'll include 2012). If the SEC was so strong, the list would have to be longer and include a more variety of teams.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the SEC is crap. But I am saying the mystique of the SEC is not proving to hold up on the field.

Wasting our best defense in recent memory just makes me sad.

This sucks.

It's not SEC Kool Aid. Look at the number of defensive draft picks for the SEC vs the Big 12 each year. The SEC dwarfs the Big 12 in that regard.

More than that though. It's style of play. The big 12 is wide open, basketball on grass type of game and literally nobody plays defense.

The 422 yards a game they average doesn't even put them close to the top half of that league.

It's a completely different game.

2014 (over 1/3 of top 20 from SEC)

1. Ole Miss
4. Bama
6. LSU
8. TCU
9. Arky
16. UGA
19. MU
19. UF

2013 (only 3 in the top 20 but 0 Big Bevo teams)

4. Bama
12. SC
15. UF

2012 (Again nearly 1/3 of the top 20)

1. Bama
5. UF
12. LSU
13. SC
15. Vandy
18. UGA

In the 3 years Mizzou has played in the SEC, only 1 Big Bevo team was even in the top 20 in scoring defense, and that wasn't even a traditional Big Bevo team, it was TCU. The only 1 in 3 years.

Yes, IMO, defenses are night and day better in the SEC.

Kevin Kelly Pulaski Academy

Very unlikely but would have Mizzou as Headline news for about 2 days.

Mizzou would never punt.

We'd probably both get better.
It's like Missouri giving Arkansas the boot heel.
