I realize it seems doubtful but....

IF Mizzou beats Alabama it is difficult to argue Alabama is still better this late in the season.

Would the committee move Bama to number 4? Without it no SEC in the playoff will be a big problem. They are the most powerful conference by far, behind the scenes and in dollars generated. The SEC will not be happy if they don't have one of their teams earning money in the top 4 for the conference. They also have several friends on the panel.

Now you may say Mizzou wouldn't be close after the rankings come out Tuesday, but that's where the committee has to make its move. If they want the SEC champions or any SEC team to make it they have to move Mizzou to top 10 in the next poll. That way they can justify a move to top 4 IF they beat Bama and have an SEC team in the playoff. I f MIzzou loses to Bama as expected then it won't matter. Remember the difference between a committee that can discuss on a conference call what the goal is compared to a BCS aggregation.

I think Mizzou is a big long shot against Bama because they've beaten nobody, ever, on that level. The panel and the SEC is hoping Bama wins next week. It makes it simple.

But watch where Mizzou ends up in the poll Tuesday. We'll have insight then.

I would not be surprised to see mizzou get a big jump this week in the play off rankings "just in case" at all.

With State going down there is only Bama and I think there are things in play here to make sure SEC gets its share.

I would imagine UCLA, Georgia, and ASU will be below Mizzou.

FSU and GTech ahead of us with a championship game to go.
tOSU and Wisconsin ahead of us with a championship game to go.
Oregon and ASU ahead of us with a championship game to go.

That's 3 spots because the winner of those games will all make it to the playoffs.

The question will be how they handle the Big Bevo with no championship game. TCU, Baylor and KSU are all ahead of us an won, but none have the opportunity to beat a top team like Mizzou would if we are working off of the assumption that Mizzou beats Alabama.

Personally, I think not having a championship game can come back to haunt the Big 12. I don't think anyone is enamored with TCU after their game with kU and Baylor struggled with Texas Tech today. At that point, I think the question becomes, is it a 2 loss Bama or a 2 loss Mizzou who just beat Bama. My guess is Bama still gets the nod but who knows.

Indiana.

It will haunt us forever.

Enjoy the SEC championship. I guarantee we win it.

But we'lll talk about our first SEC championship, and it will be with a big smile, to be followed by, "but Indiana".

Head shake.

This is what being a Mizzou fan really is.

There's always a head shake.

It would be the most mizzou thing we've ever done and I bet we win too. to make it worse we'll win the bowl as well.

I wore my Mizzou jacket out in San Diego tonight.

Ran into three SEC fans. Florida, LSU, and Bama.

Did the Indiana head shake with all three.

All three of them love Mizzou and the fact that they've come into the SEC and wrecked shite.

Two of them bought me a beer.

I went ahead and bought the Bama fans wine, just to be safe.

M-I-Z!!

I just don't think we have a chance at making the playoff this year. Indiana loss was/is the kiss of death...

We should get a decent bump in the rankings. But we aren't going to make the playoff. Because Indiana. It just won't happen.

Watching bama last night, IF mizzou doesn't have an answer for Cooper, we won't have to worry about it anyways.

We are so far down in the polls right now, it's an extremely long shot. But if Mizzou can beat Bama who is number one right now, it should put us into the top 4. I say should. I think who ever moves into the 4 spot this week though gets the shaft in the end if we get past Bama. The way we get past Bama is equally important.

All this talk about Indiana. I still think if you beat the number one rated team in the country, it over shadows that Indiana loss. Arkansas shut out two top ten teams at the last of the season. LSU and Ole Miss. We beat the Hogs by a touchdown, should have been more. Arkansas is a very good team. We have a couple road game wins also. Albeit, they were not Bama or Auburn, but any road game in the SEC is tough. Look at Bama and Arkansas. Bama barely won that game. One point on the road against the Hogs.

If Mizzou beats Bama. They deserve a shot. Whether they are playing in a weak SEC East or not. You beat the number one team, you deserve a shot. Anything less would be robbery.

I hear ya, Jafo, but don't get excited. I just don't see it happening. The committee will look at total body of work, and that loss is bad. Really bad.

Besides, we need to focus on finding ways to handle cooper and the rest of that team. Biggest challenge we've faced all year, and will take a monumental effort, an iron will, intense focus and a measure of luck to pull that upset.

I understand Semo. But beating the number one can influence just as much as an early season loss to an unranked team too. But that's why I said it will also depend on how we beat Bama, if that happens. A convincing win over the number one team and I think they won't have a choice but to include Mizzou in the playoff. A convincing win.

But then again, we are Mizzou, and we always get the shaft. So that wouldn't surprise me either.

You know, I could sleep perfectly fine with an SEC title also. Just say'n.

It a really long shot...but definitely a possibility. The winner of the Oregon/Arizona game will get in for sure. If Wisconsin beats tOSU, the Big Ten is likely out of the picture. I suppose Michigan State is a possibility, but I think not playing for the title this weekend hurts them. The ACC will likely not get anyone in if FSU loses...although Georgia Tech will make a strong case by beating two top ten teams in the last two weeks. That brings us to the Big 12. Although Baylor and TCU have had underwhelming wins in recent weeks, the Big 12 has by far the best shot at getting 2 teams in (as crazy and frustrating as it is).

One element that helps Mizzou a ton is the human element. The committee will look at how the team is playing now as well as injuries early in the year. Winning the SEC championship game over the #1 team in the country will give them something to think about. Win convincingly and it would be hard not to push MU into the top 4.

That said, we likely need some help this next week. Here's a list of who we should be rooting for this week:

Wisconsin over OSU
Georgia Tech over FSU
Iowa St over TCU
Kansas St over Baylor

I agree. I still think frick Big Bevo for not having a championship game. I suppose IF Wisconsin, GTech and Mizzou are all just outside of the top 10 might be too much ground to make up. If the ranking committee puts those teams in the top 10, it could be an indication that they're getting ready to allow any of those teams to slide in if they win.
