If our D is top 5 or 6 in the SEC we're going to Atlanta. I think our O will put up stupid numbers in year 2 of the Hypel (Heupel).

I think it's very plausible we see something like that next year: a 3-4 with a lot of 4-3 principles.

I agree. The difference between the one gap 3-4 and the 4-3 is minimal. The interior guys line up at different techniques but you are still responsible for one gap. I don't think they will have any issues being multiple front. They were using the concepts after home coming last year and averaged 8.2 TFLs per game over those 5 games. Their average during conference play in 2015 was 8.5 TFLs per game.

I hope Walters challenges his younger CBs. Acy, Holmes, and Alton all have solid length and/or recovery speed. Cheadle lacks both and teams took advantage of it when he was in the game.

Sherrils and Hilton better have really good springs. Perkins took a majority of the reps the last two games at SS and rewarded Walters with 18 tackles, 3 TFLs, and a PBU. Hilton is going to have Prewett, Ross, and Wilson pushing him.

Weren't we kind of doing this a bit last year when we had Harris or Frazier standing up?

I think we do. Logan/Palmore would make for a decent nose guard combo. Utsey, TBJ, Young, and Whiteside (if he's as hyped up to be) are your ideal 5 techs. Having shooter guys like Howard at OLB leaves them less susceptible to kickout blocks and such that has haunted Mizzou defenses for years. Beisel and Garrett both fit the stack and shed, run-stopping ILB that 3-4 teams live on.

It really doesn't matter much either way. We'll be in a nickel defense most of the time anyway

Life in the modern SEC. Officially, like Missouri, we ran the 4-3 as our base defense. I think we had maybe two games where we actually got to play the 4-3 more then a couple of times a game at Arkansas last year.

Mizzou hasn't actually been in the nickel much since BO came back from Memphis.

Why won't we be able to compete with Georgia? They aren't that athletic
They are pretty solid and have a lot of guys coming in. SC also has some athletes, KY looks stronger that they have in a long time, FL is pretty decent, Arky should be good but who knows with bert, and Auburn is going to be a very tough out. TN probably steps back a little but they always have a lot coming in. Course they always have Butch too.

We can compete, I'm just a realist. The second-year staff is going to still be learning but should be much better. I don't like we have SC as our second game. Oline looks deep, and we have Crockett and Strong, and Lock and a solid group of receivers. On D we have questions, especially at corner and overall depth. If we get injured it could go south quick. What if we lost Lock or Crockett or Frazier.

No one is scary and we could get to Atlanta. It's just a tall hill. 3 or 4 other teams could also get to Atlanta. I could see us anywhere from 1 to 5 in the east, and could say that about the other 4 in that group. I think we may just have to play the games

I feel like I say this a lot, but the East is wide open.

I love South Carolina as a second game. We lost that game by 10 in Columbia East. Don't forget we missed 2 easy FG and Lock overthrew a sure TD to Mason

S. Carolina doesn't scare me. At. All.

Well you shouldn't be scared. You aren't playing.

That was our 8th game in Columbia east. I don't like SC as our second game cause both the players and the staff are still going to be figuring things out big time. Would rather we do the Pinkel thing and don't play anybody until game 5.

Then again, maybe we kick their arse

The SEC doesn't really allow for the "preseason" we used to have in the Big 12.

The good news is we at least get a warmup game out of the gate this year.

Doesn't work that way. SEC historically always has teams playing early in the season. This isn't the big12.

Just got to man up and accept that we will play big boy games early.

SEC!

Recently Alabama has not played many conference games in the first three weeks.

But historically, teams like Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi State played early conference games. UGA/Tenn kicked off the season against each other famously in 1980 and 1995.

This early conference game scheduling still goes on. Remember Mizz/UGA 2012?

Personally, I love it

Scheduling them early allows for an easier game late in the schedule (theoretically; MTSU didn't work out that way for us).

This year we play Idaho and UConn between Kentucky/Georgia and Florida/Tennessee/Vandy/Arkansas.

Not that you can treat those games as gimmes—Idaho was good last year—but it could be good to have a couple easier weeks (especially UConn) before that important four-game stretch to close the season.
