Per Dave Matter, Franklin has been working out with QB guru George Whitfield who has trained Andrew Luck and Cam Newton among others. Just thought I would post something positive

That does seem positive, if not down right promising!

I believe he has talent. Get a few mechanical things fixed up and who knows what could happen.

I wonder if George teaches QBs to stand flat footed in the pocket like our MU QBs have been taught. Hopefully that nonsense stops immediately.

I'm not sure mechanics and ability is JF's problem.. I think it's just him, his personality. I do hope he has a great year though.

If he didn't have such a shitty personality he may have scored 50 tds in 2011.

George Whitfield is a very good qb coach.

Nice. Nice sarcasm.

If you don't think his character is part of his issue then don't know what to say...

Not many guys would choose to sit out a game, even though they were medically cleared to play, while wearing a giant superman necklace on the sideline. His mechanics and athleticism aren't a real big concern, but glad he's trying to improve himself.

Think Manziel's turnaround last season had anything to do with this? Or, is it that Franklin is a Sr. and needs some pointers to draw interest from NFL scouts?

As long as CGP puts the best qb on the field, thats all that really matters.

I think Franklin recognizes he has some things he just needs to work on. It being his SR. year, if he wants to play in the NFL he has a lot to prove this year. Remember he was considered by Mike Mayock as a heismann dark horse before the start of the season.

Manziel has balls the size of South America.. and double jointed ankles... that's why he's so good.

I don't see Franklin having ANY chance of playing in the NFL. If he gets drafted it would have to mean we are REALLY going to enjoy this season.

We're talking about a league where Curtis Painter was a starter, Marcus Vick was drafted, Ryan Fitzpatrick made $50mil, Cody Picket was a pbr rider one year and a starter for the 49ers the next, so he will get drafted. Based on his sophomore year play and stats I think he would have been a 4th rounder then. If he has say 35 touchdowns (total) throws for 3500, and completes 63% again then I can see him being a 3rd rounder.

I would gladly be shocked. Still just don't see it. As long as it's not the Rams drafting him, I'm all for it. Off the top of my head, I would imagine Murray, Mccarron, Bridgewater, Manziel, Russell at MSU, Thomas at VTech have higher stock than Franklin. If I cam up with 6 off the top of my head (and assumed some would be coming out), I'm sure there's another 6 that I didn't think of. Even if he is drafted, I just don't see it that high. Hope I'm wrong and he (or Mauk) lights it up this year.

We need Franklin to step up and have a good season and win. A clear leader by the spring game would be good going into summer workouts. It would be great for the #2 to get a series each half the way Chance Mcdanielson cut his teeth.

Franklin is keeping good company this spring...

QB's who've worked this off-season with Whitfield...among others...

James Franklin
Aaron Murray - UGA
Braxton Miller - Ohio St.
Taj Boyd - Clemson
Vad Lee - Ga Tech
EJ Manuel - FSU

I still think my boy from Lassiter, Eddie Printz will be starting by game eight this year...

Feelin' the red shirt with him. Got 3 guys ahead of him. I do hope Printz or Hosick take over in '14 instead of Mauk.

As much as I'd love to see it, I don't think Pinkel would do it even if he otherwise showed he deserved it. My bet is Pinkel redshirts him this year.

I might be proven wrong, but I still see Hosick either 1. Switching positions or 2. Never being the #1 QB.

Too little too late for Franklin. Where was this team dedication the last 3 years? His teammates know it wasn't there and Franklin has missed his chance. Time for everyone to move on to the next QB whoever that may be.

Dave Matter ?@Dave_Matter 15h Talked to QB coach George Whitfield. He raved about James Franklin, who spent spring break working with him in San Diego

This comment gives me reserved optimism in a sense because Whitfield is unbiased and has worked with great college QB's. He also went on to refer to Franklin as one of the nations "best kept secrets". Pretty easy to keep a player a secret when he misses half the games.

quote:

Dave Matter ?@Dave_Matter 17h Pinkel on Franklin's success before 2012's injuries: "Fans forget and everybody loves the next quarterback."

This comment makes me think there was no real QB competition and that Pinkel is not ballsy enough to make a move if another player deserves to start over Franklin. HCGP doesnt like to sit an incumbent in favor of an underclassman. Hope I am wrong. Again if Franklin IS the guy and performs the best then I want him on the field. I just wish he would have to earn it.
