Bello seems to be a done deal. From there, it could be anywhere from 2-4 per Matter. Matter seems to think 2.

J3 - Gone
Bello - Gone

Rosburg - Not going anywhere unless he graduates early.
Allen - Don't see it. He's probably at a school above his ability level and was a pet of the coaches.
Clark - I just don't see it with him. If he was going to, it would have been over last off season.

Isabell - Likely candidate.
Wright - I think a likely candidate.
Teki - I think a likely candidate. I think any kid that transfers to a basketball factory in high school has the type of mentality to bail for what he thinks are greener pastures and transferring is nothing new. I think if they land Bryant, he'll stay. If they don't land Bryant, I could see Teki saying screw it, not everyone followed Fulford to Mizzou like I thought would and was told.
Gant - I think a possible candidate. I think he wasn't given the chances by KA and I bet he feels the same. He also never seemed to enjoy playing.

If I had to guess which 4 they're concerned about, it's those bottom 4 guys. Of those 4, if I had to pick 2, it's Isabell and someone. Flip a coin on if it is Wright/Gant/Teki.

I'd say this is pretty solid. I'd say Teki is more on the possible side, rather than likely, but that is splitting hairs.

Isabell-Definite possibility, for reasons we all know.
Wright-Always a possibility. With kids from LA, they either love/hate missouri(and places like it). For some it is an escape from gang violence etc. Some like the big scene. Starting here definitely helps his case to stay.
Teki-Just not sure if he would want to leave Fulford. Anyone's guess, but I'd reckon he's here as long as Fulford is.
Gant-Thought it might be likely considered Fuller was his recruiter, but with his academic standing already scrutinized once, not sure if he would risk it again by transferring.

Johnathan Williams III's nameplate is gone from his locker, per source. He's no longer a member of the Missouri basketball team.

If what the worst case happens of what Matter discussed, Rosburg starting at center is going to be the least of our concerns. We would have a returning lineup of:

Rosburg
Clark
Allen

then add

VanLeer
Puryear
Phillips

I calling it now. VanLeer wins the teams 6th man award.

PG Phillips
SG Clark
SF Allen
PF Puryear
C Rosburg

VanLeer coming off the bench.

Actually, the happiest people right now might be Barton and Barnard. They probably never thought they'd actually play at Mizzou.

The staff has been recruiting for 3-4 spots for a while now. I anticipate at lest 1-2 of those to be grad transfers.
The real goal has to be keep most of the freshman.
Get to .500 or better next year (will be tough)
Have multiple schollies available next year where they have several targets that they have been working a while with.

I agree that the first goal right now has to be to stop the bleeding. Frankly, with how much they've swung and missed on the recruiting trail, I'd be putting more efforts into retaining my players and less on the recruiting path at this moment.

I assume hes already done this but, he needs to get everyone together and lay everything on the table so they can get started until next season. sooner you get moving sooner we can put this behind and avoid another embarrassment.

I don't see us landing any quality grad transfers. The good ones are wanted by everyone and are trying to go somewhere they can play in the NCAA tournament, which is obviously not going to happen here. So we'll be left taking another 5th year guy who's not a P5 player (like Shamburger). The only good I see coming from that is that the new coach will have plenty of scholarships open when he comes in after next season.

If we could get 3 5th year players of Shamburgers quality, I would be very happy. Shamburger was our best/most consistent player all year.

The staff teased us by looking at guys way up here. But they were pie in the sky and just to get the fanbase talking about Mizzou hoops. I mean Maker? Briscoe? Kinda foolish to think about it now.

So we started looking at guys down here, but those guys went to top schools with established coaches.

So we looked at the guys down here, but they were going to schools that some may consider lesser programs but have established coaches or coaches that have some buzz about them.

So we looked down here to some instate guys. But those guys had already been recruited by other schools.

So we looked down here and took a couple of in state kids who are thankful they didn't have to accept that offer from Drake. Problem is, those 4* and 5* kids started leaving, meaning there's multiple spots to fill.

So we looked down here, thinking there's no way those kids would pass on the chance to go to Mizzou. But those transfers said Va Tech and Pitt interest them more.

So after going through Plans A through Zed, we'll end up with some transfers and/or JUCO players way down here at the bottom of the barrel. But they'll be KA type players that will buy into the system. But of course they'll buy into the system, because if it weren't for Mizzou they would have wound up at UMKC. Oh. Wait.

Just messing. I love our recruits.

I want some of what you are drinking. We are more likely going to be worst next year. Gawd is UMKC on the schedule again?

Hard thing to swallow, but true.

ETA: We could lose 1-2 kids and still (perhaps?) show improvement next year. But the worse case scenario of a mass exodus would seem to be looming.

This year wasn't rock bottom? We were coached by a guy that got the job because others said no thanks. We had players suspended, players stalking, an assistant leave, transfers, lost to UMKC, last in the SEC, record losing streak, most losses in school history.....

I think we done hit rock bottom. Other than the scoreboard falling during a game how much more can happen to hit rock bottom?

quote:

As much as this sucks, if it means Mizzou hits rock bottom sooner rather than later, it might not be too bad. Two completely horrible years is better than one, long burnout over four or five years.

I thought the Big XII had the two year rule as well. Didn't the kid from UT have to sit out two years when he went to KU in basketball. I think it started with an A but can't remember his name. Had big floppy hair.

Oh I think it was Axtell.

quote:

I'm not sure if he has met or announced anything, but this mysterious 2 year rule seems like a wives tale. The ACC is the only conference that has it stated. SEC you would just have to pay your way for one year.

Won't lose any eligibility since he still has his redshirt. Can go anywhere.

I did say 'perhaps', and that was based on only losing a couple of kids. But go ahead and pretend I predicted a big turn around, dude.

'Progress' does not mean a winning record-it can (and in the context in which I was speaking) progression by the players individually (not unreasonable to expect), more consistent competitiveness, and some play of the floor that actually appeared to have a 'system' behind it.

Sorry but I don't think even "perhaps" we will be better. We won't be. We are going to be awful next year. I like KA but to think he is not in over his head is laughable. I don't blame him for taking the job. I blame Alden for offering it to him.

I get amazed that no one thinks that the players that are slated to return can't improve, thus improving the team.
IF Wright, Teki, & Gant stay I would expect them to make similar jumps that J3 and Clark made last offseason.
The year of experience should make a difference for the freshmen.

I think if Bryant comes they make the tourney! Ha, but seriously. Might as well throw it out there, I believe I said the same before this year started

According to the KA supporters on TB, J3 regressed. Of course, they only said that after he decided to leave.

Yes, players will improve. No question. That get ya to 10 wins?
