How complicit is Gary Pinkel in all of this?

I know he's not the coach anymore, but his decision to back the boycott and then subsequently tuck tail and run has led directly to where we are today. I put a lot of the blame on his shoulders and it's such a damn shame because he had done such great things here and the handoff should not be like this.

Thoughts?

Maybe some.

I blame Rhoades and the admin that hired him, pretty much all fricking losers.

Rhoades was a disaster, agreed...but I also have to think there were a whole lot of unreturned phone calls during the search and a lot of that has to do with how Pinkel handled the situation.

His complicity starts well before the protests/strike/whatever.

His coaching tree is a fricking seedling, and unless Kul goes big, it will remain so. He's the winningest coach at two schools and yet nobody could follow him and go on to better things or go on to better things without him.

That's the main thing he did to destroy his legacy.

Coaches recruit players and lets be honest, mostly black players. The protest does not dissuade black players or families. All campuses deal with racial issues, youre a Mizzou follower so you think Mizzous protest was a big deal. It wasnt. We got screwed by another AD with a foot out the door. He had Rhule all lined up, then tucked him away for Baylor. Then he got lazy and hired Odom, and the rest is history. The lesson here is dont let an AD with one foot out the door hire your FB or Bball coach.

Far too accepting of mediocrity, both on the field and on his staff. His one saving grace was player development. He was a master at doing more with less, but once achieving success, had no idea how to exploit it.

I always had the feeling his program was teetering on the edge. Once he left, it fell off.

The student council president said there was KKK running around campus. There was a poop swastika in a dorm. There was a hunger strike and protest because the school is supposedly racist.

While the vast majority of that was proven false or greatly exaggerated, it only takes one click to see it when you look for it, and the proof that something was fake is all fabricated by the people in charge.

Of course that all hurt the program, it will hurt it for years.

And you think black families were suprised there were racist in the country. Did it hurt OU or Ole Miss how about the Nubs or Bama. All had REAL racial issues. Did black recruits runaway? Did it scar the programs for years? Of course not.

By the way, go back and look up who BOs first recruit was as new HC. A 4 star black LB.

It isn't Pinkel's fault the 2017 team is underperforming on both sides of the ball.

Pinkels 2015 season was already falling a part long before the protest. Mauk had already lost it long before the protest happened.

Well stated.

We can talk about GP and the protests until hell freezes over.

In reality BO failed because of BO.

Is Missouri on the level of Nubs or Bama in notoriety, facilities, or fan base following? Those things alone bring in higher talent recruits. Ole miss was opening the bank for recruits, and still a better football program than us.

I think it's time for some reality, Mizzou will never be a championship caliber program and a coach that can consistently get 8-10 wins would be an absolute gift.

Other than being the primary state school, Mizzou really doesn't have anything else going for us, and even that doesn't benefit us the way one may think

Everything? Isn't the state of the program exactly what we are discussing? You don't want to answer my questions though about you comparing us to Bama and Nebraska?

So youre point is black families dont put up with racism unless the school has a big name? You sure about that?

Be nice if we actually got a coach who could fricking recruit our own state. The amount of talent that leaves every year is ridiculous.

Look what Cuonzo did in 6 fricking months and seems to be locking down St. Louis.

4 or 5 million dollars should get you an experienced coach who can recruit.

Barry Odom is the lowest paid coach in the conference and coaches like it. They should have let his arse walk to Memphis and had him do his OJT there.

Facts are the old admin and Rhoades had no intention of paying what they needed to get a real coach here.

I'm not sure how to address this. Not all people think the same.

Just because he recruited some black kids doesn't mean he didn't get shut out of a few houses. There are issues in the country, I don't know how many parents are willing to send their 18 year old into one of the hotspots when there's 20 other options.

Thats exactly my point...being black means being exposed to racist individuals in every area, there are no "hot spots." The media presents the news like Mizzou is a unique problem, and who are the people who believe it, whites.

If someone plays in their poop to make swastikas, black families understand thats an individual not a school policy.
