I'd guess Clark has to have at least some second thoughts.

Why would you guess that? Maybe he is enjoying his college experience playing big time D 1 basketball on a very young, but talented team.

Who would you guess then? If there are rumors out there, then who?

My take, and it is just from body language and facial expression and nothing more so it could be way off base, but Clark just doesn't look happy. Bello being side lined last night could be another one who is rumored to be looking elsewhere.

btw-Mizzou isn't big time D1 basketball either. At least not big time as I think of big time. Being last in one of the worst basketball conferences around isn't big time IMO.

Review of Puryear that was posted on PM.

quote:

Had the opportunity hang out with several high school and Division 2 coaches and watch Kevin Puryear play last night. Blue Springs South was up against Lees Summit West in one of the championship games of the William Jewell Holiday tournament.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a big KA fan and was hoping to come away incredibly impressed by Puryear. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Anyone expecting Puryear to be anything more than a bench player at the Division 1 level is going to be sorely disappointed.

He has zero interest in playing near the basket and taking on any contact as an undersized four. Instead he is a 6'7"-6'8" wing who can't put the ball on the floor and isn't near quick enough to guard the position. The majority of the game he was guarding Jared Dixon and couldn't keep him from attacking the basket. Lot count of how many times Dixon drove by him for layups where Puryear didn't even attempt to contest/block the shot. It was incredibly disappointing to watch.

What stood out more than anything though was his complete lack of a right hand. It's so bad that he doesn't even step foot on the right side of the court. Not an exaggeration....he never stepped foot on the right half of the court on offense during the second half. It became a running joke during the game among several coaches.

He does have a nice looking jumpshot and looked good at the free throw line. Hard to imagine though that he'll be able to create his own shot at Mizzou. The quickness and explosiveness just isn't there.

I'm hoping he's the kind of kid who turns it on and really steps up his game when going up against elite competition.

I came away far more impressed with Landry Shamet from Park Hill who'd committed to Wichita State.

Take it for what it's worth, but having watched him a few times myself I feel like this guy nailed it and I agree with his assessment.

He literal rerecruited this entire class and Fuller isnt a new new assistant.

Kids dont want to come here because of an empty arena. Im I'm pretty confident we come out flat in our next home game in CoMo

You can't be last in a league that hasn't even started league play yet. I would be shocked if they finish last in the SEC this year. It just gets tiresome listening to you three bitch about a coach as if this is his team and none of you understand that it takes time to instill a winning program after what was left over. Yes Kim recruited this class and they show a lot of promise. He did however get a really late start. If you don't get that I really don't think it's worth even talking about it. If you don't see progress in the last 2 games I really don't know what the hell your watching... Many a great coach have had awful first seasons with inherited rosters and turned out just fine

Im not bitching. We dont get the bryants and blakeneys of the world. Why? Cause they dont wanna play in front of an empty arena. That's why a football game vs georgia is our best recruiting tool instead of actual basketball game.

We need players who can get their own and create. You can ignore this all you want, your choice. Puryear and vanleer arent those players. They are role players. You cant keep an incoming class and lay a turd in the following one, when this class is more important for building, not the 2016 class cause tatum isn't coming

I haven't bitched about this coach. I bitch about how difficult it is to watch this team. I do think I've acknowledged the progress seen in the Illinois and OSU game. Neither of those teams are very good but those losses don't even bother me. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the W/L isn't important to me. What I'm worried about is how they look in those games. So far, Illinois and OSU are the only 2 games that it's even resembled basketball. Hopefully that's a good sign though as they're our 2 most recent games. If they've improved, they should beat Lipscomb by 15 or more. We'll see.

KA will and should have 4-5 years to get things turned around. I'm just not buying into the sunshine pumping that went on before the season and continues now. Hell, before the season, some were pegging us as a tournament team. Some are already pegging us for the tournament next year and we're 5-7 and haven't beaten anyone worth a damn yet. All I'm saying is some people need to pump the breaks a bit and take this team for what it is...not very good. Might be young. Might show promise. But right now...not very good.

Some of that has filtered here too. And I don't care if people want to think that. They're optimistic and that's cool. But those with differing opinions aren't just throwing tantrums or in need of a frontal lobotomy. Attacking the post is ok. Attacking the fellow Mizzou poster ain't good.

The PSA wasn't directed to you Tigersessed, obviously, just more of a comment to some posts I've read lately by others.

If you guys think it's bad here, it's nothing compared to PM. You say one critical thing about the Truest of True Sons Kim Anderson or one of his recruits/targets and you'll get crucified. So far nothing has been his fault and if we'd all just show up and cheer harder this team would be undefeated.

I find tRant to be pretty realistic in their evaluations of the season so far and the program under KA. Nobody here wants KA to fail or wants to see Mizzou lose, but you can't just bury your heads in the sand and pretend there's not issues when there clearly are. Plus, our discussions on internet message boards have no impact on anything, so why do people get so upset if you question a decision from time to time?

I've been up and down on KA-I started out arguing against him as a candidate (mainly recruiting issues), then after the recruiting shook out for this year I thought we might turn out to be pretty good, if we got off to a decent start. We all know what happened next, and so I became more skeptical again. But I am seeing progress, the kids are improving and some chemistry is developing, and it was probably inevitable that any coach who was inheriting this roster situation needed time to be evaluated. Patience is required, whether we like it or not. I still think this team could potentially finish pretty strongly. One advantage this group has going into the conference season is they HAVE played some quality, tough teams, and have learned something of what it takes to compete and win at this level.

Anyway, to get back on topic here, Puryear and Van Lear weren't recruited to be studs. They were recruited as role players, those kids who provide roster stability, and experience by the time they're seniors and they've developed more. This program has suffered because of the lack of those type kids since Suitcase Mike left us with no recruiting class his last year. It's part of why Painter ended up turning down the job. Haith tried to avoid biting that bullet because he was under the gun from the moment he was announced as coach, and I'm sure felt like he couldn't afford the time rebuild the roster in the face of that firestorm.

These kids are part of the program rebuild, and I'm sure KA sees some things in them he can develop and use in rebuilding the program, even if as role players and eventual senior leaders.

If they are role players, who do you think the player players will be that we get? I'm just curious because it seems like the field is getting whittled down.

Whoever has academic questions. We seem to only get that type of the heavier recruited kids

Don't know at this point. The slow start and meddling moms has helped narrow that field. Really, there are plenty of players on this squad already-several of the kids already here are potential go-to guys either now or down the road. The biggest need is some size down low, and then maybe a pg imo. Bryant would help, but evidently mom wants him closer to home. Kapita might work, but he sounds like a risk to not qualify. There are probably some kids they are looking at that we don't know about yet. Even if they don't pull in a top end stud of some sort, this can still be a solid class that contributes going forward.

Maybe we should split some more home games between KCMO and St.Louis? Might peak the interest of some of the recruits in those areas?
