Not up on NCAA regulations. Is he able to get out of his signed letter simply because the coach left? Or is there an approval process he has to go through? Does Marquette have to approve it? Does he lose a year at all?

Marquette doesn't have to release him but it is bad pub for the school if they don't. There have been instances where the school releases them but excludes schools they can go to.

Jayson Tatum's dad, Justin Tatum, just won the state championship by defeating Jimmy Whitt (Mizzou offer) and Columbia Hickman in OT. Mizzou offer and miss and Texas commit, Jordan Barnett finished with 43 points. Not sure how hard Mizzou went after him, but another St. Louis kid.
ETA - First year coach wins state. Get him on staff and get his kid on campus.

Unfortunately his parents are real good friends with Mike Anderson, he's going to Arkansas most likely. He couldn't snatch Otto Porter,Bradley Beal or Ben McLemore but he can pull a kid from Columbia to Fayetteville.
Because Mizzou....

Anderson hasn't made the tourney in his first three years at Ark. He is a lame duck this upcoming season. If he doesn't make the tourney he is probably looking for a new job.

Austin retweeted that Nolan Berry, 6'10" F at Butler from STL, is transferring.
There is a 30% chance he's coming to Mizzou. Not cuz I know anything. But cuz transfer.

Not that I would know, but Berry would seem to be a lean towards SLU as opposed to MIzzou. HIm being the grand son of Easy Ed. Also it's going to be tough for Haith to recruit top players if people have the opinion that he is on the hot seat. I don't really know how he couldn't be unfortunately. I would love to see Mizzou go after Tim Miles, but I think we might be stuck for one more yr.

I'll be honest. I'm not sure he'd help Mizzou. I think he's a better fit for SLU. Hate to say that cuz he went to my alma mater and I saw him play countless times. I also saw Rosburg play a number of times in high school. Berry was not heads and tails better than Rosburg. Now, how he's developed since, dunno.

One of Marquette's recruits asked for a release from his LOI and he was told that they would not consider releasing him until he has met with the new coach.

I said this in jest, but more seriously, how often do high school coaches get an opportunity at the next level in college? At least as an assistant. Grawer comes to mind right away. Anyways, Tatum coached Soldan for 6 years, winning their first state championship in 30 years in 2012. Had gotten to the final four in 2010 and 2011. Left after that and I think they've had losing records since. Went to CBC and in his first year there, wins the state championship. If you had to say he had a strength, it's coaching bigs underneath. Not saying he's ready now, but maybe I am. He's admittedly young, but he's won everywhere he's been. He coaches a position that we need help in. He has a son that is an all-american. Would it be such a bad idea?

Don't know this guy. Don't know how he knows. Know nothing about him. But an apparent Marquette fan and if I'm reading him right, one of his concerns with losing Hill seems to be there was no LOI.

That's what I thought I remembered at the time of signing. Not sure what that guy meant. Saw somewhere else that grades may yet be an issue with Hill. Again, no idea myself how reliable that is.

To follow up, just read through the SLU message board. While there are some there that would take Berry, the majority don't feel Berry improves the team at this point. That should tell us something.
Butler had Berry listed at 6'10" 200 lbs and apparently wanted him to play center. He's not a center. At least not yet. In his high school games, he hung around outside the 3 point line more than he got into the paint. Of course, he was 6'8" in high school and DeSmet had a 6'11" kid and another shorter but physical player inside.
Personally just think he's one of those tweener kids with no real position at the college level. He's not quick enough or athletic enough to have an effective game from the wing. Not big enough or skilled enough to play inside. Sounds like he was resistant to it, but his best bet would have been to take the Rob Loe (SLU) approach and put on some weight, develop an inside game offensively and defensively and still be a 6'10" kid who can shoot the 3. Same thing Janko should have done.
