D. Camp runs the Cotton District like a dictatorship. When he was Mayor it was even worse. He used issuance of construction permits (or denial of) and city inspectors to force his hand around there and get everything like he and he only wanted it.

I have no personal issues with the man but I saw stuff like this happen counteless times in regards to it. It was comical.

Yeah I'm painfully aware of his shite.

I just thought you thought he owned camphouse because of the camphouse name.

Let's just forget this happened.

ETA: I'm dropping a dime today.

As others have mentioned, Bulldog Bash will be the place to be. Further down Main Street/University Drive other bars are Upstairs at Restaurant Tyler,Speakeasy at Restaurant Tyler, MugShots, Dawg House/State Theater, Old Venice, Camp House, and then all of the bars around the Bash.
Cowbells will be a shite show after the bash and I bet you won't even be able to get in.
Best Food: Little Dooey, Veranda, Restaurant Tyler, Camphouse, Umi, Harvey's, the previously mentioned bars, and a shite ton of chains. Breakfast is a must for the Biscuit Shop or Starkville Cafe.
Tailgate: Most everything is around the Junction, but you'll need to set your tent up Friday at 4:00 to get a spot. Tons of folks Tailgate on the sidewalk on Friday waiting for 4:00 to hit so they can set up their tent.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Any particular bar scene worth noting Thursday night? We should be getting in around 9 pm, so plenty of time to pregame and hit the town. Bars close at 1 am on thursdays?

Maybe thursday hit up main street. The speakeasy place and Dawghouse, since you will probably be in the cotton district fri and sat? I don't really know the bar scene anymore though.

Figured I'd say good game this past weekend.

I enjoyed Starkville and thought the town was real pretty.

A few thoughts:

The cowbells were so damn annoying, I really can't believe 1. that y'all are allowed to use those and 2. that y'all actually like doing it, so loud.

Bar scene is mediocre. Went to Bin and Cowbells. Noticed there were NOT A LOT of hot girls at either, however, while tailgating I was completely blown away by all the hot arse there. So...very impressed by the amount of nice tail at MSU, but it seems you really have to be in the inner circle to have a chance. (Probably didn't help we were completely wasted the whole weekend.) The accents of a lot of the girls I met were really funny...... I fell in love a few times.

Really hard to get around, very few sidewalks.

Got hardly any heckling at all. Very different from games in BR. All the dudes I met were really friendly but could tell they really hated LSU/me. Definitely a complex from being picked on so many years.

The game was real tough and y'all played us hard. Good luck the rest of the season.

Dan Camp had all the best interest in the world trying to set guidelines and standards and do what was best for Starkville long term. The problem is many non-forward thinking people couldn't deal with it. Make no mistake about it, Dan is an a-hole and that is his biggest problem. From my dealing with him, he just seemed like it was his way more than working together.

The city of Starkville is having a hard time keeping up with the growth of the University and success of various athletic programs. That's where your bar scene and sidewalk problems come from. The city really needs to get on board and upgrade a ton of infrastructure.

Also, there just needs to be more bars. During big weekends it gets so packed that it makes it seem worse than it is because you can hardly get close enough to get a drink every 30 minutes.

Struggles of a small college town. It's already gotten so much better, just has to keep going. I think Starkville is headed in the right direction. Some of the power that were in a few hands for a very long time is seemingly being spread out more and more.

Yeah, I heard references to a few people who basically owned everything.

And also how it's really gotten this way in the recent past, for the better. I enjoyed it and could tell that it's a cool place and will get better.

It's already leaps and bounds better than when I was there and I didn't think that it was that long ago.

The people I worked for were developers as well that couldn't operate inside the District at all when he was Mayor, and would then get the code book manipulated to slow other projects that wern't his. Time is $$, and he'd make you waste as much of both as possible if you were competition. Used his position to strong arm basically . Then you'd be in the Cotton District and everything there was not to code..

What's weird is I never heard a lot of other fans complaining about us using cowbells when I was growing up in the 80s/90s. Is this a millennial pussification thing?
