There is always a good contingent of locals from outside the city limits, smoke inside, and the crowd is just comprised of people that generally I would rather not be around.

Drunk, Drunk people. Indoor smoking, fights, bathroom blowjobs.
I used to enjoy it

just have it in a cup and you will 100% have no problems. The tailgate I go to has a full on bar with liquor out and they dont say anything...like anywhere else as long as youre not being an a-hole or making a fool of yourself you will be fine.

If you picked up all the torn off Affliction shirts after every fight that breaks out, you could probably pay for your trip.

So I'm gonna be in town as well. I've been out of Starkville for a shade over a year and apparently my two favorite places (Halfway House and CJ's) have shut down. So where should I go to drink/eat? I'll be in the district for the concert, but otherwise it's up in the air. I hear State Theater reopened - is it any good? I'd hang out in the district afterwards but it's gonna be slam-arse full.
Any new must-try restaurants? I'm gonna try and check out Tyler since I never actually got to eat there while I was in school. Been to both the Veranda and Anthony's.

I've never had anything said to me. I keep my fifth of vodka on top of my cooler or on our tailgate table. I usually walk around with my beer in a koozie as do most people at my tent. Campus police are pretty cool on game day in my experience. I usually offer them a water or coke though if I see one or two walking by our tent.

Well liquor isn't against the rules. You could walk to class with a bottle of liquor and you would be fine.

My favorite place in Starkville, without question, was Halfway House. Apparently the owner needed the cash and wanted to get out.
The guy that owns Starkville Cafe bought it and turned it into The Camphouse and it sucks dick. I talked to him about it one night at the new bar at Harvey's and he said he wanted to turn it into a place for older people and young professionals to hangout and he has effectively killed the place. It won't last much longer and I may look to revive the Halfway House.

Go eat at the Veranda. It's legit.

It's kinda fallen off lately, IMO.

As others have mentioned, Bulldog Bash will be the place to be. Further down Main Street/University Drive other bars are Upstairs at Restaurant Tyler,Speakeasy at Restaurant Tyler, MugShots, Dawg House/State Theater, Old Venice, Camp House, and then all of the bars around the Bash.
Cowbells will be a shite show after the bash and I bet you won't even be able to get in.
Best Food: Little Dooey, Veranda, Restaurant Tyler, Camphouse, Umi, Harvey's, the previously mentioned bars, and a shite ton of chains. Breakfast is a must for the Biscuit Shop or Starkville Cafe.
Tailgate: Most everything is around the Junction, but you'll need to set your tent up Friday at 4:00 to get a spot. Tons of folks Tailgate on the sidewalk on Friday waiting for 4:00 to hit so they can set up their tent.

Camp House food is good. Can't speak to the bar scene there now, but food is legit.
