2017-18 Schedule
Nov. 2      TBA, Exhibition Game
Nov. 10    Alabama State
Nov. 18    Florida A&M
Nov. 20    Green Bay
Nov. 22    Stephen F. Austin
Nov. 26    Jacksonville State
Nov. 30    North Dakota State
Dec. 3      Dayton
Dec. 9      North Georgia
Dec. 12    at Cincinnati
Dec. 16    Tennessee Martin
Dec. 20    Arkansas Little Rock
Dec. 23    vs. Southern Miss*
Dec. 30    North Florida

11 home games? And look at Thanksgiving weekend. Counting the Egg Bowl you have FAMU, Green Bay, Stephen F Austin, JAck State, and NDSU all in a short window.

Does MSU want fan support or not?

0 P5 teams. Yes I understand Cincinnati and Dayton are usually good squads but the quality drops pretty big after that.

It's apparent to me MSU is going to be an RPI killer for the SEC.

I don't see them having a chance at a NCAA at large with that schedule or really a chance at the NIT. The margin for error is so thin. Not saying they can't be better, but the schedule might prevent them from doing that. Ecspeially when you are playing 5 nobody teams in such a short stretch like that. Good chance MSU drops one. Not many teams can win those # of games in college against anyone during that short period.

Maybe I'm being too harsh. And maybe it's the SECs fault for not putting MSU in the Big 12 Challenge or actually partnering with a better conference that could give games to all teams, but the bottom line is this schedule is awful and I think you are going to see it in attendance.

Meh, shitty schedule but win enough conference games and it won't effect us too bad.

Attendance has always sucked prior to Christmas break anyway, this year will be no different.

Our basketball program is shite right now. I don't blame Howland either. This is the price you pay for experimenting with unproven coaches. Rebuilding from nothing.

Our program has sucked since they moved the student section. You won't build a quality program again unless students are put back on the side of the court instead of the end/corners. Horrible atmosphere.

Agreed, problem is seat lisc has already been sold for the seats, this is going to take a while to unwind.

Agree. Old student section was perfect. New set up sucks. Howland deliberately did a crap schedule to win some games. With this group, that was a good call.
Next year, I look for us to have a loaded schedule.
But for this year, to be any kind of threat for a tournament bid, we have to be undefeated in OOC games.

Richard Williams played a lot of pre-SEC-season schedules that were really bad. The fact that we have UC and Dayton takes this off the list of all time worst.

The schedule doesn't give us any room for error in the SEC season. The other SEC teams will have to do well in non-conference games, and we will have to do well in the SEC regular season.

Yes, we had some really weak non-conference schedules under Williams in the early 90's and under Stansbury in a couple of his seasons. It probably cost us NCAA bids in 1994 and 1999. To make the NCAA's now we will need a very good SEC season and a near perfect to perfect non-conference record.
