Talked to someone with inside knowledge and they said we basically ran cover 2 all night and that they wouldn't let Dak run at all until we actually needed him to. I know this has already been said, but just confirming we were playing with a very vanilla script. You will see a different team next Saturday. We did the same thing last year before we went down to death valley and stomped that arse.

we have to make sure it comes down to Harris beating us. That's the biggest concern of mine. Holding up for 4 quarters vs the run.

It looked like UT Manny Saturday night rather than the defensive genius he is being hyped in the offseason.

Wow. Just. Wow.

Thats how i feel. Worried about the fourth quarter. Not the scheme or competitiveness. Glad it won't be 90 degrees or humid.

What game were you watching? USM moved the ball at will. I hope it was because we were vanilla but it seems to me our D should be good enough to maul USM in any formation we play. This isn't USM coming to town. Hope they fix it quick.

The UM and GT games are still burned into my brain from last year, thus the skepticism at the way we played against the buzzards.

ill take 4 quarters of trying to stop that primarily with Harris having to beat us passing. Again its the kids 2nd start in a road SEC game...not a good formula for success

Sorry, but this is just wrong. The fact that we only gave up one TD is pretty indicative of the fact that USM couldn't move the ball at all when we clamped down, much less "at will". We played cover two all night and they took what the defense gave them. Defense executed well in the scheme they were in, at least for the most part.

In no way did our D dominate them as expected. The game was still in doubt into the fourth quarter. Our subs didn't get any significant reps. I give USM credit. They played with abandon, the dogs, not so much.

It seems like USM watched how Ole Miss picked our middle apart. That fake give, overflow slant, absolutely kills us... That and a TE down the seem. Ark's TE...UM's TE...USM's TE....
This is a trend I'd like to see end, quickly.

There was absolutely no part of that game that was "in doubt".

went back and looked at the game in its entirety in order to get a better handle on the R. Brown discussion...

there is NO way, R. Brown is 245 (listed weight), probably closer to 225...he doesn't bring enough thump when he hits people, which is why even on initial contact he struggles to finish tackles, and shed blockers. Prototype Cover 2 MLB though, but he isn't going to stuff runs like BMac or maybe even G. Green would. He is a run and chase tackler, which there isn't anything wrong with that as long as you keep him clean. (by comparison we listed BMac at 6'5 250ish, actual was 6'4 246)

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing Richie moved to OLB.

it actually would fit him better. I don't expect a hybrid LB to play much vs LSU...so maybe he shifts to OLB and Green gets reps at MLB.

IDK, Matt Wells went beast mode against LSU last year.

We didn't "dominate" because we had 3 turnovers in the first quarter. Can't blame that on the defense, turnovers and dropped passes are my only real concerns from Saturday.

Well, that and the punt return team, still can't believe Fred didn't get out of the way of that ball.
