I believe so. Dak didn't run the ball until the end of the second quarter. He handed the ball off to Shump a lot even when keeping it during some read options would have been the better decision. I think Dan told Dak not to run until later in the game when it needed to be done.

LSU did manage to avoid any injuries since we didn't have to play the cupcake. I honestly think the missed game is a wash. We could have used it to work out kinks but it could have dinged us up a bit.

The missed game is irrelevant IMO

Very worried. In typical Mullem style, he plays the less talented players because they have seniority. I will be shocked if Mullen plays Gray, Lee or Williams in the backfield against LSU. He showed his hand by staying with his starters.

The D is a big worry as well. Those LB's, CB's and safeties looked bad except for Redmond. Not sure if Richie B can play SEC LB with USM pushing him around. It looked like UT Manny Saturday night rather than the defensive genius he is being hyped in the offseason.

Richie B led the team in tackles.

ETA: I just lol and smh at these game assessments. There was some stuff to be concerned about but not what's here.

I genuinely believe we didn't see much of anything regarding our team when they played USM. We saw a lot of young guys get PT and a very bland scheme.

It's absolutely mind blowing.

Richie B

Is on pace to have 143 tackles and 13 INTs right now. For perspective, McKinney only had more than 11 tackles in a game once last year when he had 12 against UAB.

I'm not saying the poster is right or wrong with his assessment of RB, but leading the team in tackles is hardly the measuring stick isn't it??

15 tackles after 6 yard gains <<<<<<<< 15 tackles after 3 yard gains

I don't know where the tackles were made, but where the tackles are made does matter to a degree doesn't it?

Was he stuffing runs or chasing down plays? This is a legit question as I haven't watched 100% of the game.

ETA: To answer the original question, scale of 1 to 10...id say 4. Only because of whats been mentioned here (seniority over talent still being used, Warren getting bull rushed by a CUSA DE,sloppy special teams), but Im pretty certain we have been gameplanning for LSU the entire game week of USM....so.

I agree with you there, but Richie has proved he can play the position and Beniquez is out there to be the QB.

Who else is going to play MLB?

We need to be worried about why Zack Jackson will ever see the field again instead of silliness such as saying RB isn't going to cut it.

Any way you look at it, having that many tackles means he was exceptional at getting to the ball, at least in comparison to the rest of the team.

The INT indicates he was doing his job in coverage too, as do the 3 he had against A&M last year, and the one his freshman year. McKinney was great in coverage but actually anticipating and getting his hands on the ball is something that he didn't have the nose for IMO. That's what has to happen to really protect that gap in the zone, we got burned against OM because Bo put a pass right past McKinney barely over head level and hit Engram in stride. I think him knowing when to stay home, and being able to get hands on the ball, is going to make sure the opposing QB can't just ignore the ILB all night, which I am excited about. McKinney never had a pick at MSU, whereas Stephone Anthony at Clemson, for example, had 4 and Mosley at Alabama had 7. I think that's probably part of the reason his draft stock didn't improve very much between year 2 and 3, ILB's aren't supposed to just rack up INT's but they have to be capable of defending the center of the zone.

Now, I'm not saying he's better than McKinney. But I think he certainly has a niche or two that will help us out. He's going to be a monster next year if Court puts another 10 pounds on him, 255-260 lb college LB's don't just grow on trees.

Not worried. We slept walked through that game.

Holloway won't be the #2 RB on Saturday I can assure you of that.

We stayed as conservative as possible as evident by Bear only getting 2-3 targets and zero runs (called or improvised) for Dak until the 3rd quarter.

We still put up over 400 yards of offense and with a couple of plays here or there that would have been close to 600.

We are going to be fine and LSU has no clue what's coming for them. Do you really think they can outscore us with Brandon Harris making his first start on the road in cowbell hell? I most certainly do not.

agree to disagree here. I mean, I'd much rather have my LB stuffing runs than making tackles 6 yards down field after being driven back 8 yards. The DL is going to have to keep him cleaner moving forward either way.

probably true, we did the same last year, but THIS group of players should have been hungrier to prove themselves as most of them have not done anything.

Yes, and it's naive to think they can't. They have arguably one of the best RBs in the country, at least 2 WRs that would start for us (Dupre and Dural), and a massive OL...I could go on, but there isn't any need. We had better be light years ahead of this game.

we have no idea what Harris can do throwing the ball. he's an upgrade over Jennings sure, but as bad as Jennings is that doesn't mean much.

LF will probably have a decent game but I just don't see them being able to keep pace with us

One. Maybe. Neither one of them are starting over Ross or Derunnya. Not happening.

At half time, Tim B was talking about our streak of 420+ yards in a game. He said, "Well, they will have to get 300 yards in the 2nd half to keep that going."

Mission fricking Accomplished. 442 yds.

Wait, people were hyping Manny Diaz as a "defensive genius" in the offseason?

I don't know about genius, but I definitely thought (and still do) that he's an upgrade over Collins.

we were vanilla as frick on both sides of the ball. saturday is going to be a much different story.
