I would like to have a rational conversation with the Admins regarding this.

Private Message: You can post again but you and some of the others are making the SEC Rant a dump with the constant trolling. Not going to allow that. Thanks...Click here to remove this message.

Is it possible to have an adult dialogue regarding what is truly making the Rant "A dump"?

It is the handful of the rants biggest trolls that do nothing but bring hate and vitriol to threads. Then RA everything when they are unhappy.

The majority of the fans and fanbases enjoy back and forth jabs all in good fun. The true trolls are the ones manipulating the Admins (I say this giving the Site the benefit of the doubt assuming that they wouldn't purposefully be allowing this)

You know why we don't have this issue on the OT? We police our own for the most part. We see that there is a line where fun is had and we realize that crossing it is self destructive. There is a level of civility because of it.

I encourage the Admins to study the OT and the social standard that it has set. I also encourage the Admins to not just react to RA's but look at the context of the post, who is RA'ing, and what the vibe of the thread is. You might be surprised and find that the real cause of discourse is not what you think. This will hopefully allow you a better understanding of who is really making really good posters avoid the Rant in droves.

Lastly, I ask you to share your thoughts on this. You either want a better Rant or you want a circus that drives real discussion along with fun back and forth banter away to team boards or other competitors sites.

I'm not attacking you in this, I am offering you what I seek personally as a very successful executive, input on how I can improve and grow what I offer in a positive way.

If you really listen, really monitor the OT boards you will hear the same things being said.

Respectfully,
Old Sarge

I just wish there was more transparency of what is and is not acceptable.

I think of it like eating dinner at someone's house. If they tell me before I come "don't talk about politics at dinner" then I will respect that. It is their house.

But if I go to dinner, and the other guests start talking politics, and I say who I support only to get thrown out of the house because the host dislikes that politician...well that is no bueno.

So many rules in the Rant are nebulous/arbitrary- don't troll, don't be a bad poster, etc. And I get why, that gives mods the flexibility to do what they need to do without whining. I have been a mod on other forums, and I appreciate how hard/tedious that job is.

What would be nice would be to formalize what the other third rails are so we can all avoid them equally. Right now those of us with more experience are the only ones who know how to not step in the mess, and even then we sometimes get banned when a new third rail appears.

We have a thread on our forum to guide new users on this experience based knowledge. It would be awesome if the Rant had a sticky thread that said something like "Here are the rules to playing the Rant game."

Just my two cents, which are worth less than two cents if you melt down the coins.

The OT is...Off topic. Anything goes and all topics are welcome. It's much easier to stay "in line" on a board where all topics are kosher. The SEC Rant is supposed to be about SEC sports. When you have trolls that constantly just make bait threads that offer nothing of substance, it gets annoying. I'm not saying you personally do that, I dont' really keep up with individual's posting habits outside of a few people, I'm just pointing out what (I'm guessing) your PM was referring to.

Bad threads can be anchored or deleted. The hateful troll posters who vomit on everything are why good posters choose to interact less and less on the Rant.

Can you use the Request Admin button to alert the admins?

With all due respect, more often than not, by the time an Admin sees the RA/responds the damage is done...or at least that's how it appears to me

Niño is right. People start to react on their own at some point.

But the complete troll thread on the main board right now is a good case study for the admins to observe

It's a huge troll by a Tennessee fan but who cares? It's silly and obviously made up. People will have fun and then ignore it.

It's the poster that comes along and says "you suck Serranaux and you should kill yourself". Then people of both fan bases react.

When in reality the one that made the statement is the true creator of discourse on the rant.

Troll thread going downhill

You see in this thread the real troll is not the OP Serraneaux, but a poster is not who he/she claims to be.

I have RA'd this post to bring this example to your attention.

Case in point

Every thread on the Rant is a troll thread.

I am guessing sometimes the admins are just in a bad mood or bored so they police it at that time.

I have asked on this help board the main help board many, many, many times....can we add a button or 2 to the current RA menu?

Right now the only appropriate button is "inappropriate material" but that is broad. If you could add a button for "suspected alter" and/or one for "obvious troll" it would go a LONG way in people actually using the RA feature. To go along with that point, if you don't want to add new buttons, can we get like a 20 or 30 character text box so we can describe what the problem is?

There have been so many times where I've considered RA'ing someone for just being an awful, awful poster or starting an awful, awful thread, but the reality is that "inappropriate material" is just too general of a catchall that doesn't really relate what the actual problem is.

This would solve issues on both the poster's side and the Admin's side

But it wouldn't take care of the core problem. Maybe for original OP's but trolling by far is not the reason people avoid the rant. It gets thrown around a lot but the truth is that trolling that breaks down into name calling and hate speech because that's an idiots only defense once he is exposed is the real problem.

More opportunities or ways for people to contact Admins will probably just complicate the situation further.

We really need a shift within the posters towards a community mind set. The question is, how do we do that and why does it work so effectively on the. OT?

I think you should just continue to post however you want, while also realizing you have 0 say in how this site is run. Just don't spam the board and don't constantly troll too much and BOOM, you won't get banned or a PM.

Easy peasy. I usually charge a fee for this kinda stuff.

The OT isn't "competitive". And as someone who has posted here since the sites inception, and posted on TD since 2003 (?) people do in fact avoid the board because of trolling. They absolutely do. I know plenty of people IRL who post on TD but avoid the SECr because it's just everyone trolling everyone. You can barely get any real discussion on SEC sports anymore. I post on another site for that TBH

Cas4t, you troll way more than most including me by a long margin. You offend too many people that's why they treat you the way they do. But this thread isn't about you.

I get treated very well on this board. And if you don't want a PM then get better at trolling. I've been banned one time in 12 years.

Now I'm sure plenty of aggy and ole miss posters dislike me but that's 100% by design.

Eta and if you catch me in full troll mode it's because I'm responding to someone else. For instance, you won't find one thread or post where I trolled aTm after we took the series a couple weeks ago. I applauded their bats and said they deserved their ranking. I'm a shite lord response troll. The problem is the blatant trolling/flaming. From lsu fan too

You are posting RIGHT NOW, on THE HELP BOARD, in THIS THREAD to troll someone. Think about it.....

I like you but you just can't help yourself from trolling.
