What happened with Kurt Roper's offense in 2014?

There seemed to be solid production early, and then it died off, what were some of the reasons?

Driskel and Treon. Driskel was solid early in the year, then went to shite. Treon came in and was meh but didn't turn it over much. We relied on our running game heavily at the end of the year.

I saw a reluctance on Driskels part to run much afterall,he did have a broken leg early in 2013...as a senior high schooler and as true frosh at UF he had tremendous wheels and speed...about the only real positive play for UF against Bama in 2011 after Brantley was injured was Driskels long run of close to 30 yds I believe.

Our receivers were pure crap for the most part and Ive never seen so many dropped passes in my life. We should have beaten LSU and two stupid blocks on special teams in the last five minutes or so of the USC game sealed our fate. We were soundly beaten by Bama and Cooper put on a clinic...our two safetys were not ready...Mizzou beat us soundly on scoreboard and yet failed to reach 200 yds of offense...beating us with a variety of return plays that reminded me of Ole Miss 1989....returner Murphy put on a clinic.

Our offense I think was hampered by receiver play more than anything....that and lack of execution.

He sucked at Uf. So anyone assuming he does better in the same division with far less talent is a moron... Dumb.

Again...Roper didnt impress me...but I really believe the offense overall is hard to judge because of inept WR play, which was not Roper or Muschamps fault....if folks would think about what happened before the season started in 2014. Our WR coach Joker Phillips, the ex HC at UK, left program under dark cloud after recruiting tactics were alledged to be improper....with no time left to sign a WR coach we put Chris Leak in that position. Leak had limited coaching experience and was hired to groom him into a future offensive position. We basically had no WR coach in 2014 and Leak was 8-9 yrs older than his corp of receivers. Wrong routes, horrible drops were the result.

WR play wasnt the only culprit but it was a primary reason imo that the offense was never gelled. We had to rein in our offense and used Treon a lot to run an offense built around Taylor and Jones...which is why we smashed UGA in a surprise by gaining 418 rushing yds. Then we into limbo and lost to USC in a head shaker...and sealed Muschamps fate. The girls school game was in Tally and we had them on the ropes when we picked off Winston 4 times in 1st quarter and were only up 3 FGs 9-0 but inside the 10 yd line ready to score when TE plywood hands had pass near goal line ricochet and took back for 90+ yd return to the house and swung game...still only lost by less than a TD thanks to defense.

As far as Roper...hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shite...a really tough locker room had set in by the time he arrived...defense vs offense and players vs players. A lot of pressure to win and it surprised me he took job. Whatever his abilities were....it was going to be tough to show them at UF in 2014.

UF still had way more talent on the field and gsu was also a severely under manned team who didn't even throw the football

Routes were still super boring imo

A lot of passes to guys standing still by the sideline waiting on the ball

In the first game when we dropped 60 on some sorry arse team i knew not much had changed

Our second string should've been able to handle a division two football team.

And as far as your comparison to Spurrier and Muschamp, Reel: Spurrier is not known for his defensive prowess, Muschamp supposedly is.

So it's a whole frick ton of a lot different when Muschamp gives up 650+ yards to an offense than when Spurrier does it.

Duh....triple option teams dont throw the football...so that stat is useless...unlike 7 LBers injured before or during that game.

Ok...well....got me there Straw...but walk on who is not even listed on roster isnt second string...I'd say 4th string at best.

It is different when it doesnt fit your point of view I guess....but you were the one throwing out the amount of yards given up by Muschamp. It is a fair counter to your point. Do you really want me to dig up Spurriers ineptness at times on offense? Im too lazy right.

BTW did you spend Christmas down south? Wondered how much of a celebration it is (Im sure its like here ) and what differences if any you feel south of the border. Im still daydreaming about Costa Rica....but Santa didnt bring me permanent residence clearance or relocation money either, lol. Dont get too wasted tomorrow night. Im trying to cajole my step son to come over and watch game with me..I just cant travel right now....even 90 miles. If he comes over we will kick meat chickens azz.

I've actually never drank before (not sure if I ever shared it with this board), never been drunk, never had a full alcoholic beverage so no worries there.

I'm staying at a friend's house in Mexico City for the holidays, and I've not returned to the States in almost four years now. I plan on going back soon, but I need to get my paperwork in order.

What are you guys gonna be doing for the new year? For me, just sittin' around drinking some Coca Cola.

Straw I was stone cold sober last night....my liver is a science project I think. Stepson did come over and I helped assemble telescope I got him for Christmas and we did the fireworks thing. Not to scare anyone but damn....something orangeish looking flew in the horizon...did a 18o almost and then came across the sky at tremendous speed. I was sober now.

Meat chicken is in trouble now with stepson over here to watch game.....there is hockey game outdoors at 1pm I think with Bruins and somebody else...I promise to flip to it when commercials are on...I told him dont worry cause with all the commercials you will get to see 75% of the game.

Hope everyone has great New Years and looking forward to Gators Edition of 2016...should be fun!
