Sounds like the new CSU athletic administration is willing to allow McElwain to leave without too much of a fight. Probably feels they are paying him too much- 15 million guaranteed over ten years?

This is probably close to a done deal if all the minor details are worked out...McElwains attorney will review contract wording today and there will be give and take....we already know McElwains attorney is a smooth guy.
There is no way Foley would have flown out to Ft Collins to interview McElwain if the coach hadn't already proclaim an eagerness to be UFs new HC...why set yourself up for a turn down? It means that McElwain has already had that all important talk to his wife and his children may be all grown now or close to it.
They probably have tired of the snow skiing and ready for water skiing. Believe McElwain is a Montana guy...but obviously he has coached in the SEC and knows what fanatic fans are like. We need to keep Durkin and a few other coaches on the staff..but offensively there isn't anyone I feel strongly about. Chris Leak needs to get more experience at another school and maybe become an OC eventually.
Im sure McElwain will have some of his staff follow him and that's part and parcel of the details being ironed out now...he should feel comfortable with a staff that will make or break his tenure.
Worse case scenario is that minor details become big details and we come up empty handed. That would be major suckage.

In only his third year as a head coach, Jim McElwain already is developing a reputation for being a program changer. That's what he's done at Colorado State in a short time.
Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley was interviewing McElwain for the Gator football coaching job that came open when Will Muschamp was fired last month. Foley flew to Fort Collins, Colo., on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the opening.
When McElwain, 52, took over the Rams' program in 2012, he inherited a team that was coming off three consecutive 3-9 seasons and was immersed in a culture of losing.
After going 4-8 in his first year, the Rams broke through in his second, going 8-6.
This season, McElwain and the Rams have been one of the biggest success stories in college football. Colorado State finished the regular season 10-2, including signature victories over state rival Colorado and Boston College, which beat Southern Cal earlier in the season.
McElwain came to Colorado State from Alabama, where he spent four seasons as the Tide's highly successful offensive coordinator under Nick Saban.
McElwain helped the Tide win two national championships (2009, 2011) with a potent and balanced pro-style offense. He coached a Heisman winner (tailback Mark Ingram) in 2009 and a Heisman finalist (tailback Trent Richardson) in 2011.
During his four seasons in Tuscaloosa in which the Tide went 48-6, McElwain's offense turned the ball over fewer times than any team in the nation — 57 over that span.
In 2011, McElwain's offense led the SEC in rushing (219.8 yards a game) and was second in total offense (433.4 yards a game).

Seems like it's a done deal. This is a really good hire for UF. Outstanding X's and O's and a solid recruiter.

If he brings the pro style attack with Harris as QB we may find ourselves in the same problem as before.

If the pro style offense is his style and he keeps it when he comes here I hope the QB competition will be open in the spring. IMO Grier like I have said before is a better passer and has comparable mobility. Treon did not impress me in his games as a passer especially on the last couple series in the FSU game. He has had some success on the deep ball at times but has been incosistent.

I've watched some video from CSU this season today and it seems they run out of the shotgun a lot and they like to go to the sidelines/stationary receivers (could be limited by talent?). I was a little surprised by the play-call diversity in the highlights since everyone's been saying hes conservative. Maybe I haven't watched enough. Maybe its just his reputation with Bama.
One thing I really liked about his defense is they looked disciplined but the stats say they're middle of the road which is to be expected for CSU.

Looks as though our coaching search may continue if this buyout doesnt get sorted out. From reports Florida will not pay 7.5 million dollar buyout and CSU is not budging on it. Imagine being the guy we go to next if this doesnt work out.
What I dont understand is why Foley would rule out Mullen and Rodriguez right off the bat. Rodriguez almost went to the title game at WVU and has proven himself yet again at Arizona. Mullen has UF ties and has turned around Miss St. Not to mentions Foleys repeated denial that our facilities are up to par with the rest of the SEC or top programs makes me question his thought process. I just hope he doesn't screw this one up.

When McElwain was at Bama he had Ingram & Trent Richardson, you'd have to be a dumb azz to not run the ball a lot.
We are NOT going to be a pass happy offense and shouldn't be one. Look at the best teams in the SEC over the past ten years and you will see a run ratio higher than pass. Your defense has to stop the run or you are in trouble. The only team in that ten yr span that wasn't really stout on defense was AU 2010...but if you had a qb that was 6'6" and ran like a deer...defense isn't quite as important. The most important thing was to have a bag of cash handy

The attorney for McElwain is probably trying to get max $$ for his client and that's understandable...but he is making 1.5 million now and we can double that and a little more. Foley cant give away the farm though and there has to be middle ground.

The attached article has McElwain's contract in it. It doesnt necessarily say anything about the dream job thing you keep hearing about it starts on page 10 of the contract. It uses the phrase extenuating circumstances as a way out of the buyout.

There were five individuals in the room when the agreement was struck, including former athletic director Jack Graham, who drew up the 10-year, $15 million contract for McElwain.
Graham confirmed to The Coloradoan on Tuesday that during McElwain's contract negotiations, Frank agreed to "reduce if not eliminate the breakup fee" should McElwain have a chance to leave for a "dream job." Graham told the newspaper he disagreed with the decision since it eliminated the purpose of the buyout.

This Jack Graham is the dipshit causing a stir about all this. CSU is going to have to deal with court lawsuit before long and they will have to pay attorney fees in the end.
I say frick it....McElwain should just come to Florida and let his attorneys sue the crap out of CSU. It wont happen of course, because CSU knows they are going to be the bad guys and good luck finding a good coach. You cant make a person stay at a job he doesn't want. I agree with keeping Durkin. Muschamp might have been calling the shots, but I doubt he kept Durkin in the dark with his philosophy. It will be nice to keep the consistentcy on the defensive side of the ball.

Durkin is a very good coach and well liked by the defensive players.
Will Grier needed a r/s. We will most likely have Jeff Driskel, Treon Harris and Will Grier battle it out in the spring/summer/fall workouts to determine who does start.
Any WR recruit should look at the results of the Colorado States WR Higgins and his 89 catches, over 1600 yds and 17 TD snags...that's an eye opener....we haven't had ANY WR come close to those stats. They also had 1200 yd rusher and 3700 yd passer. Sounds legit to me and it points out why Foley had the NBC (new ball coach)in his sights from the getgo.
Although Im a defense first guy and love pads popping and throw the ball only 10 times a game, it will be nice having an offense that's successful for a change.
