Yeah I'm happy we won the east.

There isn't much else to be happy about though.

And yes, the offense is an embarrassment at the major CFB level.

Thats what you get with two transfers who failed where they were and now here.

Yes, next yr if Franks,Trask or Stidham -fingers crossed- dont start and do well the seat will get warmer

TJ,

All RBs recruited by McElwain and our 2 best WRs as well as some talented FR by McElwain. Taylor, Jordan, McCoy, Fred, all McElwain (Sharpe, by far the worst OL, WM leftover.

At least speak the truth TJ, good lord.

The seat will get hot after Week 1 if we get blown out by Michigan if the offense looks like this.

I promise you that.

Yes 1 game.

One game with 6 months to prepare for against one of the current top programs in CFB.

If the offense looks like dogshit again, I promise you that seat will go from 45 degrees C to 90 degrees C really quick.

I agree clawing from the top is better. But I just don't think an SEC East Championship is such a great accomplishment the last two years. We needed South Carolina to pull a stunner out on Tenn and then Tenn got beat by Vandy. The East is a dysfunctional crap show. Kentucky almost won it if they didn't let UGA comeback and win at the end of the game. Next we are celebrating state champs then life champs. Mac is doing his thing and next year we will know but I don't want to get in the next year next year habit like I did with Muschamp. He deserves more time.

Yes the game was bad and sort of embarrassing but no one expected us to win and without the picks and blocked punt and the 4th down stop it probably turns out more like we all expected a 14 point loss or so.

Yeah, UF has won a weak East 2 years in a row unexpectedly. Pretty sure people would be even more pissed with no division title though.

If UF had lost the east both years, with the product on the field, Mac would be on the hottest of hot seats, similar to Ron Zook coming in to 2004.

As it is, it is the only thing he has to hang his hat on. Literally the only thing.

If they come out and get destroyed against Michigan, the pitch forks will come out for sure, especially if the offense is bad.

I highly doubt a loss to a top 5 team will do Mac in next yr.

Many are saying Michigan should be in top 4. We clearly arent ready yet

I'm actually not worried about next year. I'm also about to go on a very long rant.

I like the play calling with the exception of the series where we used three downs to try and run the ball up the middle to score. Otherwise, it was the right scheme, and there were guys open all over the place. Unfortunately, Appleby is what he is.

We score some more points the first half and avoid some of the turnovers, and that second half looks very different, IMO. We've also got some good guys on D. I'm really only worried about the cornerbacks next year on that side.

We're going to have a QB next year. Even amongst that blowout, it was easy to see how little is really needed for us to actually have a shot at beating Alabama. Of course, all of you who want Mac gone will totally disagree, but what you want matters not. Mac WILL be here next year, and I am looking forward to seeing my hypothesis tested.

And for all the weeping and gnashing of teeth, I am always surprised by how little time some of you spend reading about anything that is going on with the organizational side of the program. About as in depth as some of you guys and folks at GC seem to get beyond watching games and reading forum chatter is counting recruiting stars and indulging in the occasional fit of confirmation bias with past stats.

Sticklin is a promotional genius. The things he did at Mississippi State to build that brand are transformational in the same way Spurrier was to Florida football. Seriously, quit bitching for two seconds and actually read up on what he did at Moo U - a place that previously was every bit the shithole you've always heard.

LINK /

We're already at the beginning of a massive facilities upgrade, something Mac gets far too little credit for helping to push, and I would expect Stricklin to rest at nothing until our athletics facilities are second to none. I also fully expect the Florida Gator brand to grow accordingly. That's why he got hired - because he's relatively young and he gets it.

On the other end, Mac is growing staff and establishing a lot of the recruiting resources that Saban installed at Alabama. For all the navel gazing that goes on around here about recruiting stars, the ignorance over how far behind we are in support staff among some of you is shocking. How can you know so much about who we need to be chasing yet know so little about the resources with which we chase them and how it compares to places like Bama and FSU? It's absurd.

LINK

Saban didn't field 19 five stars and have a roster that was almost 80% four and five stars only because they win and have nice facilities, as hard as that is to believe. He also has an ARMY of people who do recruiting year-round.

We do not.

Mac pushed facilities and support staff when he got here, and we are working on it. If there was any failure that Foley had on the football side, it was not keeping pace with support staff and facilities as the game changed. Mac is working his arse off on that end, and he will have a ready ally in Stricklin as we go forward. But yes, we are that far behind, and a coach isn't going to change any of that. You want to see it get worse? Let's start a revolving door at coach. Let's have an administration muddy it's vision of where we need to be a little bit more to appease the blowhards on the Internet after two years. Brilliant plan that would surely be met with equally brilliant results.

It seriously boggles my mind the time some posters take to look up stats and make all these spurious arguments that are somehow supposed to prove that going to Atlanta twice is essentially meaningless, yet they do absolutely no homework on the actual day-to-day operation of the program; where the program is structurally deficient in personnel; how those deficiencies affect everything from training to recruiting; and what steps are being taken by key personnel to alleviate those deficiencies despite their being objective evidence that these things all matter.

Saban isn't probably the GOAT because he's a great football coach, which he is. He's the GOAT because he understands the organization necessary to maintain excellence over the course of a decade in modern college football. Florida has not done well with that, but we have the people in place to actually get that done now.

Will Mac win a natty here? I have no clue, though I believe we will win the SEC next year unless Franks and Trask or whoever else are total busts. But either way, I 100% believe that the organizational side of the program has greatly improved and that now with Stricklin here as AD, that is going to accelerate.

Florida will be back. I'd say give it time, but it really doesn't matter what you do. Piss and moan, get on board, or throw up your hands and give up football. Whatever suits your fancy. The future will get here regardless.

Nice!

Sorry I only have one upvote to give.

Mac touched on this in his post presser.

Drives me nuts, man. We have people who take the time to dig up total offensive stats over the past five years who apparently don't even bother with the low hanging fruit being covered out there. We could have hired Nick Saban in 2014 and probably pretty much be where we are now because of all the machinery behind the curtain at UF. Until Mac got here, we were trying to win Le Mans in an old Alfa Romeo while everyone else is driving 919s - and that is in regard to facilities AND personnel. I'm actually very happy with where Mac is trying to take the program. I think Stricklin will be a wonderful asset in that regard as well, and I'm excited about next year. You have a coach trying to come in here and make a sea change in an outdated organization, and yet the fanbase is littered with people who are pissed that we didn't score enough points in order to get to our second SEC Championship trip in as many years.

If we go out there and stink up the joint again next year, sure, I'll be worried, but what I saw yesterday was a team that is so damned close to turning the corner.
