Opening day is finally here, Gators poised to make another good run this year.

Gators Baseball

quote:

The No. 2 Florida Gators are set to open the 110th campaign in team history this Friday with the first installment of a three-game series against St John's of the Big East Conference.

All three matchups air on SEC Network+ beginning with Friday night's 6:30 p.m. opener. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Coming off the program's 16th SEC Championship and a trip to the College World Series Finals, head coach Kevin O'Sullivan enters his 17th season at the helm. He commands a Gators squad that has won 14 of its last 15 games at Condron Family Ballpark and posted a 36-7 overall record at home in 2023. Florida is fresh off its winningest season (54-17) in team history.

Pretty uninspired start to the season, lose opening day and then cancel the next two due to weather. At least we have 2 mid week games this week to try and get some work in.

Game Day

quote:

OVERVIEW ON THE OSPREYS
North Florida enters the matchup with a 1-1 record on the season after splitting a Friday doubleheader at home against Delaware last weekend. In those two contests, the Ospreys hit .291/.382/.455 as a team while pitching to a 5.06 ERA with 18 strikeouts against nine walks in 16 innings. Last season, UNF went 28-27 (13-17 ASUN), which featured a 20-13 record at home and 8-14 road mark.

MIDWEEK MAGIC
Last season, Florida went 11-2 in midweek games. The Gators carry an active, nine-game midweek winning streak into Tuesday's matchup at UNF.

NON-CON DOMINANCE
The Gators went 22-3 across 25 regular-season non-conference games in 2023. Florida's streak of 13-consecutive regular season non-con wins was snapped last Friday night vs. St. John's.

FRESHIE START
Arriving as the No. 34 recruit nationally, right-handed pitcher Liam Peterson dazzled in fall and spring practice to grab hold of Florida's Saturday starter job. From 2022-23 at Calvary Christian, Peterson delivered a 10-2 record, 1.28 ERA and 141 strikeouts in 76 2/3 innings - good for a 16.6 K/9. Peterson will start Tuesday's contest at UNF after having his debut washed out over the weekend.

Good to get that first W of the year, and to have a freshman pitcher step up like Peterson did.

Gators win 10-0 in 7 innings

quote:

No. 4 Florida used a 14-hit barrage backed by a two-hitter on the mound to defeat North Florida, 10-0, in seven innings at Harmon Stadium on Tuesday night.

The story of the matchup for the Orange & Blue was the collegiate debut of freshman right-hander Liam Peterson, who dazzled with seven strikeouts across three innings to earn the win in his first-career start. At the plate, Cade Kurland (4-for-5) led the way with a career-high four hits while scoring four runs. Jac Caglianone (2-for-3) also connected on his first long ball of the year and produced a team-high four RBI.

Had another strong outing from a freshman pitcher on Wednesday evening, and some great defense from Cags. 13-4 win.

Columbia heads to Gainesville for the weekend series.

Welp, late game struggles, several doubles by the nerds make it semi-interesting in the seventh. 10-6 Gators. Still not sweating it, but not feeling great about it either.

The Nerds tried to make it interesting in the end but the good guys win it 7-3. Lots of positives this evening and definitely some things we need to work on. Left too many men on base for sure.

Prices of food at a non con baseball game

Wait n see when Chip Howard finishes his $500 million dollar Ponzi scheme to build a stadium kitchen at the swamp to see how shitty and overpriced the food will be for football games too

Food/drinks are expensive at sporting events, more news at 10:00.

Gators struggling tonight, need some late inning magic to take one from Stetson.

And we dropped a mid week game, Neely was awful from the get go, I was screaming to pull him after 2 or 3 batters but we kept him in. He’s either really good or he struggles and rarely recovers.

Good bounce back game last night, a freshman on the mound got it done again. Got Miami this weekend, always fun to play series against in state schools.

Most of the time he’s very good.

In the mid-week games, if the starter has a less than stellar outing you are likely going to stick with him longer than you want. Don’t want to get your pitching staff off course going into the weekend.

Absolutely agree… but when he’s not, he’s not. I can’t recall him starting terribly and turning it around.

First big series this weekend against the things down in Miami, should learn a little something after this weekend.

Not giving up on this team at this point but they definitely don’t have that killer instinct/championship chemistry at this point. Baseball is a long season so 100% still think we can pull it together, we have the talent it seems but thus far not putting it together.
Struggling right now, but confident we’ll pull the victory out tonight.
