Well, I mean, considering that most of our players are young on defense it's not a super priority just yet. Especially at DB -- LB we've gotta pick someone up, and I agree, we have to get a DT or two after we lose the two from the fraud scandal.

It hasn't been a priority under this staff in 3 years. We lost 1 to the fraud case. Why do you pumpers need to lie?

Right you are, I misread about Keivonis, forgive me. Still -- we needed to replace the one we lost at the very least.
But, if they can bring in some more 3*s to play like 5*s, I'll take it.

And 1 on NSD who lied and flipped to FSU.

I hate kids who do that, but at least there are a lot of recruits warming up to us. We have to get a few on DT (if not this year, 100% recruit our asses off in 2019).
I think this class, though, McElwain is focusing on:
Offensive Line
Wide Receiver
Which is pretty much what we need most.

I think we'll pull a few DTs

Even if they're 3*s I won't lose much sleep. We've seen how Mac recruits them.

Conliffe and Slaton are gonna be pretty good.
Posted on 10/22/17 at 12:58 pm to dbuchanon
I don't get the DT recruiting hate... Campbell, Slaton, and Conliffe are all playing this year and haven't done anything where I've thought that they looked out of place. They'll only get better.
Shavar Manuel flipped to FSU on NSD a couple years ago but he didn't qualify. Defensive tackle is a need but it's not something that is pressing in this class. Especially with a four star DL already committed for 2019.
The defensive line has been extremely solid for us this year. Inside and outside. And I doubt that any of those guys leave early either. Just my opinion but they haven't been a problem on the field this year.

Me neither, opposing RBs are avg less than 3 ypc lately

It's not that I hate them. I don't. WE HAVE NO ONE BEHIND THEM. You're trying to make an argument that isn't being made. We have 5 DTs if RDJ and Bryan are gone. In the sec that's a disaster.

3*s are doing great. So much so that only 5-7 have panned out here under mac.

Bryan will be back.
Ancrum has played and held his own. We will sign 1-2 DTs in this class.
That's 6-7 for next year. Plenty.

Plus the style of defense we play, guys like Polite and Cece can slide inside and play inside as well.
I think that the concern over defensive tackles is a little overblown.

You're incapable of talking football without sounding like a bumbling idiot.
If we have bad enough luck where our first 5-6 DTs are injured, the style of defense we play allows us to slide some of our heavier DEs inside to play DT. It's not ideal but it's a possibility. There should never be a time where we're that unlucky though. Of course I'm not suggesting that we WANT Polite or Cece to be playing DT. Come on man.

Anyone else notice that TJ has said this every year and has constantly been proven wrong?
2015- Antonio Callaway, Fred Johnson, Tyler Jordan, Jabari Zuniga
2016- David Reese, Lamichael Perine, Brett Heggie, Vosean Joseph, Jachai Polite, Jawaan Taylor, and Eddie Pinero
2017- Kadarius Toney, Malik Davis, and Kyree Campbell
Can we at least give Mac credit for his evaluation? It's a TREND of 3 stars outplaying their ranking out of high school. Especially the 2016 class. Enough of the 5-7 players panning out. It's been more than a couple of exceptions at this point.

Not going to break it down in this thread. I'll make one later. We signed 40 3*s and all you can find is 15?
Posted on 10/22/17 at 5:00 pm to TJGator1215
We've signed 45 three stars since 2015. 17 of those 45 were a part of the two month class that Mac had to scrape together to get warm bodies on the field in 2015.
1/3 of them have been solid contributors to this point, a majority coming in the 2016 and 2017 classes, and it's still early in the 2016 and 2017 guy's careers.
That's a solid, good but not great number. We need to sign more four and five stars, and we're seeing that happen in this class that's currently ranked #1 in the SEC and #6 in America, and certainly in the 2019 class that's ranked #1 in America.
The point is that it's a lot more than just 5-7 guys over the course of Mac's tenure. In fact, it's been an average of 5 guys per year. You'd be hard pressed to find any team in the SEC with more three star contributors in the 2016 and 2017 classes than what we've had so far. Although it could be argued that if we would have signed more blue chips we wouldn't be so dependent on 3 stars, I think that the improvement in this class would lead you to infer that we can expect even more really good early contributors coming in the pipeline, and guys that are going to make us better. In other words, with this incoming recruiting class, our arrow is pointing up IF the coaching is up to par.
The number of good three stars we've found is a good thing though, it shows that the staff is good at evaluating players. It also means that if we're able to recruit more blue chip guys, we should expect to have even more young contributors coming up.
Trust me, there's no reason for you to make a thread. These numbers are all from 247. You tend to embellish numbers to fit your narrative. There's no need to create a whole thread on this bud. The numbers are positive for Mac on this.
Just my thoughts
