Would be down if the opportunity presents itself. Pretty busy most of the time, but if a date and time gets set... I might could work with that.

After giving it quite a bit of thought lately ... I dunno, it was late and I was watching Meet Joe Black and thinking about it or something. I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone someday soon. We need to make it happen if the Good Lord is willing and the creek don't rise.

Plus, I still owe y'all a Cockaboose party.

I've been working The Masters for some time now, and have a commitment to do so again this year ... it's just around the corner and, unfortunately, falls upon our Spring Game weekend. But I'll have something figured-out soon ... and I do look forward to meeting everyone.

Y'all have a good time. Share with me all the details of how it goes if you will. I suspect we have a pretty darn good group of people here - and I have good instincts for these sort of things. I've seen it before.

I haven't been to a football game at Willy B since 2011. Had tickets to LSU last year, but we all know how that turned out.

I'm long overdue. Maybe I can plan on getting there for a game this year. It's very difficult now with a small child and trying to keep up with grad school.I'd love to meet all of yas.

Congratulations on getting hitched, I'm getting married in May. Im actually doing a small bachelor party (brothers, dad, & best friend) in Cola so we can watch the spring game.

Did anyone get-together and tailgate Saturday?

Even if not, for those that got to watch the game (I've got it recorded but have not had a chance to watch it yet) and for those that attended ... what are your thoughts?

Was it about as expected?

I wasn't able to catch up with anyone. Wish we could have though, I had 25 lbs of crawfish.

The game was fairly what was expected though still very raw and rough around the edges. Team has a ton of talent though.

It went about how I was expecting, except some people performed better, and some performed worse than I thought they were going to do.

QB's
McIlwain got the most snaps and had the best day. He hit deep passes and plenty of dump off passes. He had some nice runs, but his rushing TD was a gimme b/c of Zandi's holding penalty. I thought Mitch did better than I expected. He completed just over 50% of his passes, but he had some decent throws and his receivers dropped some that were catchable. McIlwain still looked better though, but he had the 1's receivers most of the time.

WR's
Bryan Edwards is going to make noise this year. He'll be another SC Freshman All SEC WR. He has the size, speed, playmaking ability. The 2nd TD where he got a guy full of hedges was great, he held onto the ball through the catch. Deebo did Deebo when he's in space with the ball, he's very elusive. Jamari Smith is absolutely a WR, he has great hands and he had a knack for getting open. He'll be good for us in the slot.

TE's
Hurst and Crosby did well. Those two are going to get a lot of looks from McIlwain in dump off passes. Crosby got some really hard hits/tackles and kept bouncing back up, he's tough.

RB's
frick. David Williams was lost out there. AJ Turner looked like the best RB, I don't think they credited him with all his carries/plays in the stats. Every time he touched the ball, he made someone miss and he has that 'take it to the house' speed. Hopefully something will improve in our RB situation in fall camp, right now, it's not looking awesome. Some of that has to do with the OL creating running lanes too.

OL
They allowed 3 sacks on Mitch and McIlwain, but they also allowed a good amount of QB Hurries as well. They weren't terrible, but they weren't great. I don't think we have the best combination of guys out there, at least I hope there are other options.

DL
They got pretty consistent pressure for being handicapped with 'no touching of the QB's.' They would pull up a couple yards from the QB, probably b/c they didn't even want to get a finger on them, or feel the wrath of Muschamp/Roper. Ulric Jones played like that game really meant something, and I appreciated his effort every snap. Boosie is fast for his size, he'll beat out some overweight/slow OT's around the edge. They did a good job of closing running lanes and playing assignments. I felt like these guys were MUCH more well coached than last year. You can tell that someone has actually been training them.

LB's
No Walton or Skai, but the guys who played did alright. Filled the gaps on running plays and kept McIlwain from destroying them with his legs. They weren't great in pass coverage, and Hurst/Crosby got open a bunch.

CB/S
Yeah, here's the weak link. Everybody has been saying that already and everybody saw it Saturday. We need DB help. At least we weren't playing coverages 15 yards off the receivers, but I don't think we have elite level speed in the DB's right now. TRob is probably coaching his arse off with these guys right now, but they've been the victim of so many years of ineptitude by the previous DB Coach that it's going to take time (hopefully it will take less than 3 months.)

K/P
Sean Kelly is awesome. Fry made his kicks. We looked about average on kickoffs. Our return game looked ok, except for one play by AJ Turner that could have gone the distance on a KR had they not blown the whistle. Lammons botched/dropped a PR. Give AJ Turner the damn ball, I think he should do PR and KR for us. He is fast and very elusive.

Summary:
Mitch, Jamari Smith, Bryan Edwards, Crosby and AJ Turner did better than I expected. I think AJ needs the ball much more. If you give him the ball with 10+ yards of space, he'll find a way to get 20+ yards Jamari is a really nice surprise in a position of need.

McIlwain is the man. He's going to be tough for Perry to come back and beat out for the starting spot. McIlwain has this command of the pocket and doesn't get rattled with pressure. He goes through his checkdowns and can find the dumpoff quickly when pressure comes. It's hard to believe he'd be getting ready for prom right now had he not EE'd. He has a great level of field maturity for his age.

Our DB's need help and more speed. Hopefully our LB's will be better when Walton and Moore are back. This year's DL will be drastically better than last year's.

So ... about what we thought.

Thanks for the breakdowns.

Did the kid from Saluda, DLineman who redshirted last year, ... dammit, having a hard time remembering his name but it started with a D ... wait, got it, Dexter Wideman. Did he play?

Disappointed to read that our OLine needs that much work.

Figured we were going to have trouble with depth at RB. No Mon Denson huh? No CJ Freeman? That really worries me. We're going to be asking a lot of Rico Dowdle when he arrives I guess.

How did Chris Smith look in the secondary? I know we're hoping that Jamarcus King comes in and contributes right away ... but I'm not holding my breath.

Can we win 7 or 8 games this year based upon what y'all saw Saturday?

At this point, I think it's in the realm of possibility but not probability.

I don't know maybe everyone comes into fall camp hungry for wins and willing to commit to the program but we just have to wait and see.

Wideman did ok, he had a few tackles, but he also had an obvious facemask penalty called on him too. He just ripped and pulled on it.

He can be a little dirty sometimes ... he's known for it. I remember when he was a freshman at Saluda and he was always in trouble for doing dirty stuff on the field. He'll bite your nutsack and poke you in the eye in the pile ... that kind of stuff.
