An ATH we offered last week who's stock will rise, Caleb Farley, has some impressive highlights. Like they say, "Dat boy good!"

Plays QB for his HS team. Natural athlete, very smooth runner with both top end speed and fluid agility. His cuts appear effortless, good instincts and body control. Solid 2nd Gear speed. Sometimes tries to create too much though and runs too far laterally. Needs to secure the ball with both hands when contact is imminent. He's a fantastic D1 prospect, hopefully we can flip him from va tech. I don't know if they are recruiting him as a WR/RB/QB. I would think we would recruit him as a WR/DB. like Pharoh, but he would be better on offense, IMO, with his ball skills.

2017 QB Braxton Burmeister just committed to Arizona. Not sure if we had a real shot, but I know he had attended a few practices here.

Really? Where's he headed to?

Damn...what's that say about him as a former qb of ours that nobody really even knew about this...or seems that bothered by it?

And I agree with the post above mine....

All aboard tMcIlwain train!

We got our '17 QB, Jay Ulrich. This will be a multiple year development, but he could be of service when McIlwain and Bentley graduate/go Pro.

What's the scoop on him? I was reading somewhere that he was a member of the 400m relay team? Sounds like a good athlete if so.

He is smart and a very outgoing person. Has a legit offer from Harvard and Duke. He's also extremely outgoing and will be a vocal leader on social media and rallying other prospects and recruits.

From what I saw on his highlights and his stats, he's a developmental guy. He's ranked around #26 as a Dual Threat QB, and that's about right. He's probably in the Top60 overall HS QB's in the nation. He can run, but he's not elite fast, if he could get his 40yd to something below 4.6, he'd be really dangerous. His release and forecasting is what he needs to work on the most, he telegraphs too much where he's going with the pass and his release isn't that fast. That's stuff he can easily work on in college though. He does have a good HS arm, but it's not as strong as Bentley or McIlwain's. He threw for 2700 yds last year with 21 TD's and 9 INT's, and I bet the 9 INT's came from him staring down WR's, b/c that's what I saw in his highlights when he was completeing passes.

His dad is a SC grad, but he grew up a tater fan. he didn't have a tater offer and he probably won't get one this cycle. We offered him and he accepted the offer knowing that he's a project QB, like Dylan Thompson was. He'll need a few years of practice and reps and then we'll see if he can be of service. He'll make an excellent scout team QB, b/c he can throw better than most dual threat QB's and he's VERY smart and will be able to pick up the other team's playbook quickly (when he's trying to learn a new team's playbook each week.)

Anyone got any updates on some of our top targets?

I heard Shi Smith was in town recently, as was OrTre.

We are putting out a lot of offers. We put out 222 so far this cycle and 241 last year. in 2015 we only put out 173.

I think the Muschamp & staff approach is to evaluate a lot more talent and not hope for recruits to fall in. Most SEC schools are over 200 offers for this cycle and some are over 300, so I think this might be a bettter (at least a lot less Bubba Jr Lazy) approach to recruiting.

For this coming cycle, we're good at QB, except we might take the kid from the west coast b/c Roper really likes him.
Kaymen Cureton

RB os a big priority, K Bryan is really firm in his commitment, despite increased interest from some FL schools, and we look really good to get him. AJ Davis is a stud RB and is a real possibility. I'm hoping Javon Leake stays under the radar as well and we can steal him and Caleb Farley from NC and VaTech.

WR is another position of need, b/c we don't know if the youth we have now is going to become elite and we are overall very young at WR. Shi Smith is all gamecock, he isn't committed but it's done, it's over. Ortre is going to dance this game with clemson, they told him he didn't have a commitible offer, people then pointed out that he should go to SC, now clemson says he has a commitable offer, but he hasn't committed yet...all while clemson is waiting to see what Tee Higgins does and everyone acts like the situation for Ortre now is different than it was 3 months ago...lol. McClendon offered a bunch of 4/5 * WR's and can't get much interest from them, so he's going after a bunch of 3* developmental type. Not all that impressed with the 2014 Recruiter of the Year this cycle so far, but we're not even half way though this cycle, so there's still plenty of time.

For TE, we have Will Register, he's going to be a good one and we're done at that position this cycle unless some high ranked guy wants in.

For OL, we're almost done, we'll take TJ Moore and maybe one JUCO TBD guy later on. We'll take about 5 OL this cycle.

We'll take 4+ DE's this cycle. Brad Johnson is leaning SC pretty strong as well Deandre Johnson/ MJ Webb and Tre Lawson are both takes and Tyreek Johnson is already committed. Tyreek is going to remind everyone of Norwood, this kid has no quit in him.

Nothing of note is really developed yet at the DT position, but that's not a spot of need this cycle. We took 5 guys that could develop into DT's last cycle.

We're looking at a few guys for LB, but Hamsah from NC is the highlighter here at a OLB/S/Star/Spur role. He's a super athlete (and I mean that in the noun sense.) Put him anywhere on the field, it won't matter, he'll 'out-athlete' whoever you match him up against. We're going against bama for him, but we have help in Con City.

DB recruiting is going to be awesome this cycle. TRob is everywhere and has as lot of offers out. 5* Samuels GF is going to SC, if they stay together through his Sr year, could be good for us. Jamyst Williams and AJ Terrell have legit interest in SC, and are camping here. Several good 3* developmental guys are interested too, and we have Tank Robinson and a couple other solid S prospects lined up.DB recruiting this cycle will be solid.

4*/5* CB Jamyst Williams wants to visit SC next. Has a lot of great things to say recently about our coaches and his belief on how he could impact our program. TRob is doing work here, we're a legit contender for him.

IMO, he is the best CB in this class. If he were 6'1, he’d be a top 10 player. I think Clemson is the team to beat, followed by UGA. Dabo is working Grayson HS hard, thanks in large part to hiring his good buddy, and former Grayson HC, Mickey Conn. The good news for UGA and SCAR is that Williams has no ties to Conn as he just transferred from Archer HS.

3* '17 OLB Davonne Bowen is committing to SC on Wednesday. Interest in him took off in May, offers started coming in. However he camped at SC recently and now said he's announcing on Wednesday. In state guy.

He plays DE in HS, but he's a OLB in college.
6'2" 220 lbs, and 4.4 40yd...I'll wait to see how that 40 was verified...b/c then he should be playing RB.

Jr Season (stats)
61.5 Tackles, 14 Sacks, 8.5 TFL's, 32 QBH's, 1 Safety, 1 Pick6

https://www.hudl.com/athlete/5619999/highlights/314747378
I watched his Jr Highlights...and I left what I wrote above about his speed statement to illustrate a point...he didn't have an laser timed 4.4.... but he might be close. He's fast, he's really frickin fast for an OLB. Like really really fast for an OLB. He might be something close to a 4.4, so that could be somewhat legit. Speed Kills in the SEC, and this kid has speed for days, for an OLB.

His HS Coaches had him play DE b/c his 10 yard split is ridiculous, he accelerates with explosion. I watched his highlights twice, b/c the first time I was just in awe of how fast he was for that size and then thinking he must have bricks for hands if they don't use him on offense. I watched it a 2nd time to look at his technique...meh, he can definitely be taught more/better about how to use his hands to disengage. He plays gaps/assignments pretty well on the highlights, but it was only 6 minutes of highlights. To disengage from blockers, he uses bull rush speed inside or out or tries to push them into the tacklebox. That won't work much in the SEC with elite OL, so he'll need to learn some techniiques to match his awesome athletic ability. Although, he'll be a OLB and not a DE in college. He's a guy who could play the Buck though if he could gain 30lbs and keep his 40 yd about the same. Really impressed by his highlights, I get why the offers started coming in. His HS team, Piedmont wasn't good last year though, won 3 games...but then again neither were we so maybe this will work out.

These are the type of sleepers that HBC was bringing in early during his tenure. I like it.

Now there are reports that 2 different coaches at our camp hand-timed Bowen in the 40 at a sub 4.4 (so 4.3 range) .... That makes me believe he might be a legit 4.5 or below in a laser timed 40. Even if he's at a real 4.5 or 4.48, that's stupid fast for a 220 lb OLB.

Shi Smith apparently announcing on friday and is trending heavily our way. Would be a huge surprise if he announced for another school.
