I see one of two outcomes. We put everything together and play like the coaches want us to, and win by 21, or we fall completely flat and lose by 21...

one thing that I don't think has been talked enough about in regards to them beating NCST was their play in the red zone. This offense is almost identical to what Roper ran at Duke. ECU moved the ball with relative ease until they got to the red zone. Their wild cat qb was effective, however, stopping the run forced field goals every time. In fact, the only passing touchdown they had was a wheel route that went for 25 yards. NC State was able to move the ball on them pretty well themselves, they just missed several FGs when they had the opportunity to score.

Well it's just come out that we will be in all black jerseys. So maybe that will help excite the players?

I'm partying and ready. This is the view I just took from my condo towards the stadium ... yes, in before someone notices - it's a Letterman's Watch. I'm wearing it for good luck tonight. My little brother is here passed out on the deck. We're going to do fine tomorrow ... well, later today. I took this picture like five minutes ago.

We're seriously regretting it this morning though. Major hangovers. People are already starting to get to their tailgating spots. Traffic is starting .... just talked to T-Rob a couple of minutes ago as he was coming around the stadium. Chatted with Coach Wrenn for a few minutes. Everyone is ready.

I watched both of those first two ECU games ... I hope our defense is up to the task, they'll have our crowd behind them today.

T-Rob seems confident enough.

Heard from several people yesterday and already this morning that they had their best week of practice so far and that everyone is just glad to be home.

Yep .... all black head to toe today. I talked to a couple of the players on their way past here, Zandi seemed quite and focused. I hope our OLine is ready to dominate. They caught some serious grief this past week - if they want it to stop they need to get their big butts out there and perform.

Win or lose, the last thing I want to see today is the team coming out flat: This is the season-opening home game in Williams-Brice, with a sold-out stadium that you know is going to be electric. If the team takes the field in that environment and can't get fired up for the game, then we have serious problems IMO....

I can take the team coming out TOO fired up and hyper....but not flat with a lack of fire. ECU will definitely come out fired up, and we need to meet that energy with energy of our own in our own house, if we want to have a chance to win today....

sorry Rooster y'all are on the hook to keep repeating this ritual as long as Carolina wins at home this year. y'all are 1-0 with it after yesterday

a few of random takes/bitch&moans from the game...(not team related)

- parents weekend is always the strangest crowd of the year. not really as intense inside W-B as our other/SEC games. more than a few folks stayed outside at tailgates to watch on satellite. always more of a 'social' vibe around W-B instead of our usual rip your head off noise for the opponent. that won't be the case Oct 1.

- folks on the East side/Upper looked a lot like those from UGa 2010. that sun...was brutal for them. not one damn cloud within 2 miles of W-B but overcast and even some rain on the drive up from CHS. I don't fault anyone who didn't go back up there after halftime.

- we have a video board that rivals anyone in CFB except for using 1/4 of it to post the same continuous social media pics of fans instead of having a dedicated in-game stat section on it. the piped in music was consistently blaring over the Carolina Band & Advertising spots all game but that has always been a "tradition".

- Carolina Band ...biggest ever pushing 400. band director needs to shove the big end of a tuba up the rear of the person in charge of the piped in music. fortunately someone got the message about no 3rd Dn Elliott hell bells

- ECU fans...surprised they only traveled about 3K. most of them I spoke with already lived here, too.

great win - great to be back home in W-B again too.

I'm so glad to hear about the band. That shite bottomed out in 2010. I remember very specifically the band performing the same halftime show 3 times in a row that year. Then we got the new director the following year.

Not surprised to hear about the ECU fans though. Isn't this their 3rd trip down here in the last 6-7 seasons?

My young alum tickets are south east side upper. It was brutal most of the time. Solid cloud action in 2nd and forth wasn't so bad. Everything else was sweat city.

they've come a long way. I'd actually put them top 5 in the SEC now. they do miss Dr Phillips(FSU/LSU pedigree), who got things back on track in 2011, and took a more comprehensive music position at Colorado St in 2014. usually takes the folks running the recorded music over the PA a game or two to figure out they're killing the band but it all falls in place.

good point about the ECU fans. I was actually a little relieved they weren't there in large numbers. this was there best chance to beat us since the 90s. they destroyed downtown Charlotte in back 2011. I think the city sent their school a bill for the trash/cleanup in the lots on MLK outside of BofA. they had 2 lots that looked like a war zone once they all left after the game.

it's a catch-22 with the East Upper. hate it in Aug/Sept/Oct in day/afternoon kicks, but it feels great up there in Nov in the sun.

we called two with our tailgate who were over in 503 in the 2Q and told them to slide over at the half with us in 304 in seats nobody showed for.

Sheeeeesh ... I feel like I was rode hard and put up wet this weekend. Too old to have done it - going to be paying for this for a couple of days. Didn't get home until 3AM. Missed church. Slept until just a few minutes ago - after 12Noon.

Good to see all the different generational stuff that went down this weekend. I enjoy reading y'all's happenings.

I do remember walking down the ramps thinking we were damn lucky to win that game - a little frustrated with our pass defense again - still not crazy with how our OLine plays ... then we watched the Muschamp presser on the closed circuit and he made a lot of sense.

He's right, that offense of theirs is pretty good. They ran up a lot of yards between the 20s but our guys held them to 15 pts. That's actually pretty strong. Made for tough watching but the outcome was such that I probably should have appreciated it more.

Watching the Muschamp Show right now ... God Bless Harris Pastures but damn, it was not our A game. We did okay though - it was a win. We're young and we've got potential.

This weekend was a pretty good one all around. Friday night was a good night, and the tailgate Saturday was solid. Not our best work, but we still had around 30-35 people show up.

It is definitely time to jump on board the McIlwain Train. Once he gets a little more touch on his passes, he is going to be really good. He made some nice reads and nice throws. The one where he rolled right, then stopped and set his feet before hitting KC Crosby in a tight window was a thing of beauty. The defense gave up a lot of yards, but not a lot of points. Glad to see us come out on the good side of that.

I was happy with the defense. After the first couple of drives, it was apparent that letting them drive to the red zone then attacking the ball/stopping the run was the game plan and it was executed well. Offensively, my main concern is the 3-12 that we went on 3rd downs. We are going to have to stay on the field to score and, just as important, give our defense a break. 2-1 was what I thought we'd be thus far so no complaints from me.

We should be very concerned about our running game ... or lack thereof. We've got serviceable backs - the problem is with the OLine IMHO.

Roper is going to have to scheme differently in an effort to compensate for our shitty OLine.
