I doubt it, I turned it off to fricking frustrated. We'll be going on the road for a regional this year I bet.

Yep, we've dealt with some key injuries to our Ace Montgomery and now Webb, but we haven't developed as a team throughout the season as I hoped we would. We should have enough talent to improve offensively over last season (the last 2 seasons really) and we should have great pitching depth. But we seem to be digressing in many fundamentals of the game: defense, situational base-running, situational hitting. Plus several pitchers are struggling in their locations.
I can understand Holbrook's desire for a more aggressive team on the base-paths: he's thinking that our offense will be more aggressive at the plate as well, and we'd be getting timely hits regardless of whether we run or not.
And while we've improved slightly at the plate over the past 2 weeks or so, we're still struggling in situational hitting (RISP, lead-off on base %, etc.). We're having our guys swing early in pitch-counts, and with opposing pitchers throwing early pitch-count strikes that makes sense, but we're whiffing on them. And then whiffing on the 2nd strike pitch as well.
Perhaps until we start showing and proving that we're as good a hitting team as Holbrook thinks we are, we should return to what Tanner had us do over the past 2-3 seasons: station-to-station, bunt men over, sacrifice RBI hits, etc. Then once our young guys start settling in at the plate, we can turn them all loose....
But we've lately looked VERY undisciplined at the plate, on the base-paths, and defensively in the field. That has never been a good recipe for success. I bit my tongue earlier because we're a younger team and with a new HC, but we've past mid-season now, and if anything we're going backwards...

I agree completely, it does seem that this team is digressing especially defensively & pitching. I don't remember when it's been this bad, definitely before the 3 years in the CWS. I think it's a combination of the coaching & just the executing of everything overall. The hitting for sure has improved but situational hitting isn't something you can harp on besides the basics, it's just got to happen so we've got to get out of that funk.

10-6 win tonight, I'm sorta hopeful for this weekend especially with how badly UK's been playing as of late. We need both Belcher & Monty to go deep in their games this weekend imo to at least get 2/3.

Huge sweep in todays doubleheader, interested to see how Wynkoop will do tommorow.

3-1 SC to complete the sweep Wynkoop pitched an absolute gem today, hope he can continue the momentum going into Baton Rouge this upcoming weekend.

Bad pitching & defense tonight, Gardner Webb 7-6 tonight. I'm hoping we at least steal 1 this weekend, wouldn't be surprised if LSU sweeps.

Split first 2 games w/ LSU, lost 5-1 & won 4-2. Would be amazing to win the rubber match tomorrow, I don't think Wynkoop will last long tomorrow however.

Big win. Be something to take this series.

That was an exciting game! I'm glad our guys pulled it out, that should do a lot for our confidence moving forward.

I was on edge pretty much the entire game, was a heck of a game. I do feel sort of confident tomorrow because Westy & Webb are relatively fresh both only have pitched 1 inning this weekend.

Gamecocks take G3 4-0, huge start by Wynkoop. If he continues to pitch this well for the rest of the year we'll have a good chance in the post season imo.

A Sunday shutout at LSU? That was a great game. Really wasn't hopeful about this weekend but they showed out yesterday and today. Really glad to the W.

I also was a bit downcast in my hopes for this weekend, but was gladly proven wrong! Great win for the Gamecocks, and how about Jack Wynkoop: didn't have any quality weekend wins until last weekend, and pitches solid 8 innings versus a ranked UK opponent giving up only an un-earned run. Then today pitching 7 innings of shutout ball against the #2 LSU Tigers in front of a hostile crowd.
We may have found ourselves another big-game pitcher we can rely on. Now bring on Vanderbilt!

Hopefully this momentum will carry over. Take 2/3 against Vandy, and I think we could be back in the discussion.

Big series. Everyone knows its tough to beat LSU @ home and we just flat out beat them. Great performance by Wynkoop. If we are doing deep into the postseason, our starting pitching is going to have to carry us.

Lost 3-2. I watched but Idk what to make of it. They had some good hits (including the 2-run homer) with 2 outs, which is always frustrating. Also, we just could not get guys in scoring position. I feel pretty good about tomorrow and I think we can take the series.
