Is it now politically incorrect to now recognize CMD? I know most don't get the day off but most State and Federal employees do; however it seems that Georgia now just lists CMD as a state employee holiday now instead of Confederate Memorial Day? When did southern heritage and pride become so taboo that a documented holiday can't be observed by name?

I like having the day off, but I've always thought it was weird having a holiday for Confederate Memorial Day, Jefferson Davis's Birthday, and R. E. Lee's Birthday.

Federal employees
The strange thing about Georgia is how they moved one of the Confederate holidays around. I forget if it is Lee's birthday or Davis's birthday, but one is now marked on the Friday after Thanksgiving, giving state employees that day off.

I know some fed employees that work inside Alabama state offices get it, but standalone fed offices do not. I suppose they get it because the building is closed. It is not a federal holiday.

Local county commission got off for the day. I think it's sort of bogus for a commission that meets twice a month to get off for that
Also, combining Robert E. Lee day and MLK day is for many people down South a way to avoid taking a day off for MLK. I'm fine with honoring Robert E. Lee, but there's no reason to stick it on the same day as MLK day

I'm a federal employee and we don't get that day off. Don't get Good Friday off either (which is not a holiday but a lot of companies give that day off)

Honoring the Confederacy is unpatriotic

Ah man I've participated in that type of thread a time or two over the years
Thinking I'll sit this one out, though.

While I'll agree with you on that, I don't agree with this.

The Confederacy was fighting against a strong central government. Similar to what we have today that many want to rally around and in my opinion is the primary driving factor that elected Trump.
Now you and many more will want to say that the Civil War was fought over states' rights to own slaves which is correct, but there was a split coming anyways over the role of the central government and how large it was to be. Basically we were gonna fight sooner or later over something and it just happened to be states' rights to own slaves.
And you can be for honoring the Confederacy and those that fought for it while simultaneously acknowledging that slavery is morally wrong and not conducive to a strong and healthy society.
