OB's thoughts on blazer bays with rolled gunnels?

What's yalls thoughts on rolled gunnel boats? I've seen some good deals on boats with a rolled gunnel/edge (Kenner and Blazer Bays). Do these boats ride just as good as a liner type boat? Are they just missing the finish look and storage area? I'm assuming they ride a little rougher due to the weight.

Imo since they are lighter the ride would be affected. The storage also seems to be drastically less.
Positive is less HP will push it well along with less draft

They're fine boats. I've had two in my lifetime and both were dry riding, open water worthy boats. Most rolled gunnel boats have splatter deck in the cockpit. Very easy to clean and hard to chip. They can ride a little bit rougher due to the weight, but every manufacturer is different.
I would have no problem whatsoever buying a roller gunnel Kenner or Blazer. My only reservation would just be to inquire as to the stringer and transom material used in the boat. Lots of rolled gunnel boats are manufactured with plywood stringers and/or transoms.

I have a kenner 21v which is almost exactly the same as a blazer 2170 Except the blazer looks like it has more storage and weighs more. My wife hates the way the splatter looks but that's pretty low on the priority list for me. It was cheap and seems well made. They have a blazer 24 build thread on the hull truth right now. Haynies also look very nice.

I own a Blazer Bay 1960, no splatter interior, and have been caught out in stupid weather. Not only were we able to get home safely, but rather quickly and dry as could be.
I found mine up in the PNW, hence the reason it has a ss safety rail and full enclosure, and a kicker motor to boot.

BB boat company has never had an original idea, that boat is a direct splash of the Kenner as is their 2400. What yr, price, extras?
They ride as good or better than their twin with a cap, weight can’t make up for hull design .

Mine is a 2008. It not only had a bimini top, but had a full enclosure that zipped on to the bimini. I got mine for about 16K. I fished it for a year now and just had some fiberglass work done to the bottom, all new wiring, pumps and 12" lowrance installed. I love mine for what I do with it. I might even pull the railing off and install a trolling motor and bass fish out of it.

I have a 2016 Blazer 2170 and absolutely love it. Powered by Merc 150 with a Jack plate. I can get in very skinny water on low tides in the marsh and also get out in the bays and handle a decent open water chop. Overall a very well rounded inshore boat for the price point.

I have the 2400 with rolled gunnel. It’s significantly lighter and can be felt in rougher water. Trim tabs will be your best friend
All of that being said, it’s really easy upkeep in comparison.

Because it doesn't have wood in it and its made like modern boats, minimal structure to be strong enough.
I love rolled gunnel boats but today they cost as much and in some cases more than a liner boat. If the boat isn't wood cored it really doesn't make sense. The only reason I would prefer a rolled gunnel boat is price.

Mine has an '08 F115 and does about 40 mph. I just got offered a chance to put a 2020 Mercury 175 PRO XS for a GREAT price but it exceeds the HP rating on the plate.
Any suggestions? How fast is it with a 150? Does a 175 sound dangerous with such a low weight? I don't drive like an a-hole, FYI. Any thoughts as to what the top end speed might be with a 175?
My insurance company doesn't have an issue with it.

21 with 175 prob 50mph very light, ran one with 225 that ran 58 but chine walked like a bourbon street drunk. Kenner’s aren’t stable at high speed.

I have the 1906, it is a true 19'6" boat, 7'8" width but only a 1450 lb hull weight. I have the F 115 (405 lbs) and 9.8 (105 lbs), for a combined weight of 510 lbs, hanging off the back now.
The 150 that it is rated for and the 175 are both about 510 lbs.
I would imagine that the 1906 with a 150 and a ss prop does about 55.

I bought a 2013 Frontier 21 open with a Suzuki 150 last year. It is laid out very similar to the Kenner 21vx. Rolled gunnel, big front deck, front seat boxes and a full back deck. Got a couple waterproof locking totes for storage under the back deck and there’s storage under the two seats and front deck. With a little organization, it suits my needs just fine.
With the 150, I’ve gotten it up around 47 with a dinged up prop. Just had my prop refurbished and polished, may get a little more out of it.

i have a kenner 2000 21VX with a 2017 mercury four stroke 150, same one i mentioned in this thread in 2017. When i first got it, super ultra light, slightly over propped id see 50-52. now i have a trolling motor, ice chest, fat friends, and a rev 4. I see 47-48.

I don’t see the top end numbers y’all do. I can hit 44, maybe 45 with the wind and a light load. Cruises at 38-40. I’m propped for a great hole shot though. Trim down, hit the throttle and instant plane. Maybe 2 seconds. Have a spare prop it came with, I’ve thought about swapping because I feel like I should hit 50, but don’t really want to go that fast. Handles chop just fine.
