Not sure what C Martin's buyout at Cal would be, but I'd like the hire. Being from ESTL he'd recruit the bejesus out of STL. Has a solid if not spectacular record at the places he's been and would still be at TN if it wasn't for a bunch of idiots that wanted Pearl back.

He recruited nationally when he was at Louisville.
Two FFs in 3 years with a title at Louisville, 3 consecutive conference titles and two consecutive NCAA bids in his first gig as HC is plenty to sell players on. He would also have shite tons of PT to sell because the roster is weak.

If Sterk pays him, he won't be stepping anywhere but on Gary's F-370 during the summer and hitting up Coconuts in the Gravois arm.

I'm warming up to Cuonzo. I too think he would recruit STL magnificently and I can't think of anything more important to our success.

I've always been a Counzo fan. Gabe and Matter have both said they believe Sterk is aiming high with this hire. Sterk wants an established power 5 coach.

Another name would be Chris Holtman from Butler. He's kept Butler at a high level after Stevens and just signed their highest rated recruiting class ever.

I don't think Cuonzo Martin is aiming high.

I'd be fine with him, but he's far from elite.

Same. I'm not on the Cuonzo train at all. Underachieved. Same boring style as Martin with less coaching chops.

He does play a defensive style, but he can recruit and I can't think of any reason he wouldn't kill it in STL.

Pair him up with an Associate HC who has the chops to install some half court offense and it could work out quite well.

An underachieving coach that would put us on the bubble most years and have talented rosters sounds good to me.

Martin has never stayed past his third season, so we don't know if he can do anything other than rebuild. He may be able be more than a builder, also maybe that bubble type of team is the best he can do.

Yeah. His bubble team that went to the sweet 16 should have contended for the SEC title that year. Great talent.

Florida was undefeated in the SEC that year. Tennessee did finish 1 game out of second place. Kentucky clearly had more talent than Tennessee.
He did have solid talent, a better offensive philosophy would have got Tennessee a couple more wins.

No way, the guy has gone to a place where kids want to play at birth, and has turned it into an average program.

Indiana should be a perennial top15 program. He has not met those expectations, especially for as cocky of a guy as he is.

If not for injuries Indiana would have 3 B1G championships in 5 years.
1 starter missed the entire season
Another missed about half of conference play
And their best player went down early in the season with an injury.

Only coaches like K can overcome that type of injury problems.

nobody is good enough for us

although I might take Self

who, BTW, really wanted this job at one point

I think he got Tennesee to the Sweet 16 in 2014, but other than that what has he accomplished? I'd rather have Marshall or Jacobson.

Other than Martin's first season at California, his teams have been top 4 in their conference each of the 6 years at power conference schools.
Only won fewer than 10 conference games once in those 6 seasons.
